World Peace Day celebrated in Roanoke
Unity Church of Roanoke Valley will host a World Peace Day meditation Tuesday at 6:30 a.m., 3300 Green Ridge Road.
At noon, Greenwich Mean Time (7 a.m. in Roanoke), men, women, and children around the world join simultaneously to wish for peace and understanding.

Boxley Hills contest winners announced
The Boxley Hills Neighborhood Association has announced the winners of its first annual Holiday Decorations Contest: first prize, Ronald and Judy Dowell, 5404 Thornrose Road; second prize, Carroll and Peggy Perdue, 924 Charnwood Circle; and third prize, Kenneth and Helen French, 5722 Darby Road.
Winners were chosen on Dec. 16 from more than 100 neighborhood homes decorated for the holidays.
Roanoker's story featured on PBS
"My Mama Had a Dancing Heart," a story by the late Libba Moore Gray, former Roanoke resident and graduate of Jefferson High School, will be featured on the PBS television show, "Storytime" on Jan. 1 at 11:30 a.m.
Gray's name was Elizabeth Francis when attending Jefferson.
Gray's sister, Suzanne Sprenger, a librarian at William Byrd Middle School, will introduce the story to Blue Ridge Public Television viewers.
