Two men have been charged with robbing a Roanoke convenience store early Christmas morning.
At 4:08 a.m. Wednesday, a man entered the Uni-Mart on the 1200 block of South Jefferson Street and brandished a pocket knife at the clerk, police said Thursday.
The man said it was a robbery, and told the clerk not to call police because his partner was waiting outside. He then fled with an undetermined amount of cash.
A short time later, a police officer searching the area arrested two suspects at a nearby apartment. Roger Dean Poindexter, 39, of Vinton and Farris Columbus Slade, 28, of Roanoke, were charged with robbery.
According to other police reports Thursday:
*A 43-year-old woman was charged Tuesday with stabbing her boyfriend in the chest during an argument at a Williamson Road motel. Police went to the motel about 1:44 p.m. and found Wayne Walters, 37, at the front desk, bleeding from his chest. Walters refused to be taken to a hospital, and was treated by rescue workers at the scene. Shortly after police arrived, Cynthia Flood Merryman came to the front desk. She was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.
*A 46-year-old man was beaten and kicked by two juveniles Tuesday afternoon at the Indian Village public housing development. Michael A. Doyle of Roanoke was treated at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem.
*A Roanoke woman told police she was pistol-whipped by a man who approached her as she walked on 13th Street Southwest about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The man, who said he was looking for someone who robbed him in a drug deal, struck the woman in the head with the butt of his pistol, she told police. The woman refused medical treatment.
