MEALTIME BUDDIES GENEROUS IN HELP TO OTHERS IN NEED

O.K. Roanoke, pop quiz: How many food groups are there? Answer: at least two, according to Friday's Good Neighbors tally.

The Lunch Bunch, a group of about 12 women, contributed jointly to the Good Neighbors Fund. After many years of being friends and sharing lunch, they decided, as one member says, "Hey, we don't need anything, let's help out people who do need something." After supporting and helping each other for so long, the Lunch Bunch decided to extend their good will to the surrounding community. So last year, as the Lunch Bunch got into the spirit of things admiring Christmas lights around Roanoke in a rented radar bus, they compiled their Good Neighbors gift in memory of a member's husband. And in memory of a member's daughter, they have given again this year.

Likewise, members of the Thursday Dinner Club directed their benevolence toward Good Neighbors, opting to donate to charity rather than exchange gifts among themselves this holiday season. Members of this club say they've been friends for years, and they enjoy doing nice things for others.

Friday's contributors included:

Virginia Hopkins in honor of her teachers Marjorie Clark and Jane Hale

Isabel Hopkins in honor of her teachers Renee Campbell and Kimber Pennington, and in honor of her Girl Scout leaders Janet McDowell, Pam Kreger, Betsy Feldman, and Susan Thompson
