Police have arrested a Roanoke County man in connection with the reported rape of a Salem woman Thursday.
Michael Rene Carter, 38, of the 1000 block of Chestnut Mountain Road was arrested at his home early Friday morning and charged with rape, abduction, breaking and entering, and aggravated assault, Salem police said.
A 36-year-old woman told police Thursday night that an acquaintance came to her house in the North Salem area earlier that day and demanded to be let in.
The woman refused to let him in, police said, and the man kicked open the door.
The woman said the man held her against her will for several hours and beat and raped her, then she talked him into dropping her off at her mother's house. The woman then went to Lewis-Gale Hospital and police were called.
Carter was being held Friday in the Roanoke County-Salem Jail without bond.
