BODIES NOT IDENTIFIED

A day after Roanoke police found the bodies of two men in a Southwest apartment, neither has been identified.

The bodies, in the apartment for more than a week, were found Friday afternoon at 429 Day Ave. by a maintenance man after residents complained of a foul odor in the building. Possible relatives of one of the men have contacted police, but the badly decomposed bodies have prevented identification. Police will try to obtain fingerprints from the bodies, they said.

An autopsy conducted Saturday concluded both men had been shot once in the head by a gun of the same type as that found near one body. Residue tests by the medical examiner will try to determine if either man fired the gun.

Although many people have told police in retrospect they heard gunshots in the vicinity of the house the night of Dec. 19, no one reported anything at the time.

Police ask that anyone who has not seen a family member or friend in more than a week contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 981-2572 or the uniform patrol building sergeant at 981-2212.
