AKERS, Edith Irene, of Christiansburg, born June 16, 1923, the daughter of the late Nathan and Mamie Lovern Stump, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 27,1996 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest N. Akers, and also a daugh ter, Judy Carol Akers. This wonderful Christian mother is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Tim H. and Pat Akers, Ernest J. Akers; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Sonny Hylton, Rachel and Charles Lee, Rebekah Akers; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends, all of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Neal Stump, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. BUCKLEY, Katheryn Bailey, 99, a resident of Abingdon, died Saturday, December 28, 1996 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Marshville, N.C. and had lived in Abingdon most of her life. She was a me mber of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Eugene B. Buckley. Survivors include one son, William G. Buckley of Glade Spring, Va.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mrs. Katheryn Bailey Buckley will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday in Knollkreg Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. Larry J. Ousley and the Rev. DeLacy Andrews officiating. CHITWOOD, Bonnie Jean Painter, 76, of #1, Northwood Place, Pulaski, died early Saturday morning, December 28, 1996, at Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Pulaski, Va. on February 19, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Harry Hunter and Bonnie Patrick Painter. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Harry Hunter Painter, Jr. of Salem, and by one sister, Sydney Painter Gravatt of Roanoke. Mrs. Chitwood received an RN degree in 1942 from the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing. She was an active member in the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, and was a member of the Ladies' Circle of the church. Surviving are her husband, Dr. James L. Chitwood, Pulaski; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela C. and Eugene J. Moore, Brooklyn, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, James Logan Chitwood, Jr. and Karen Largen Chitwood, Pulaski; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Logan Chitwood, Maia Logan Moore; two step granddaughters, Amy Lynette VanDeusen, Kelly Nicole VanDeusen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert A. and Carolyn H. Painter, Chesterfield Co., Va., Dr. Louise W. and Judy I. Painter, Salem.; and several nieces and nephews. COLEMAN, Thelma Oliver, 74, of Bedford, died Thursday, December 26, 1996, in a Lynchburg nursing home. She was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on January 14, 1922, a daughter of the late George Oliver and Florence Barnett Oliver. She was the widow of Woodrow Wilson Coleman, a member of Bedford Christian Church and owned and operated Thelma's Restaurant and Bill's Place in Bedford for many years. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Hubert Oliver, Russell Oliver, Lester Oliver and Stearl Oliver, and a sister, Anna Belle Akers. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara C. and Ronnie C. Rice of Bedford, Mary L. and Buddy Wood of Lynchburg; two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard L. Coleman of South Boston, Michael E. and Sandy Coleman of Springfield; a former daughter-in-law, Pat C. Coleman of Lynchburg; a brother, Roy Oliver of Smith Mountain Lake; three sisters, Lorraine O. Hodges of Rocky Mount, Lelia O. austin of Salem and Betty O. Wells of Elliston; also ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. DENNIS, Dr. Bill L. Jr., B.A.D.C., 50, of Wooster, Ohio, formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Friday, December 20, 1996, in Barberton, Ohio. He attended and graduated from William Fleming High School in 1965. Later, he graduated from James Madison University and from the Cleveland Chiropractic College in California. Dr. Dennis resided in Wooster, prev iously residing in Barberton, where he was owner of the Dennis Chiropractic Clinic. He is survived by his wife, Sherrie of Wooster, and by his parents, Bill L. Dennis Sr. and Faye A. Dennis; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. (``Bob"") and Becky Dennis; two special nieces, Courtney and Renee, and two special nephews, Matthew and Mark, all of Roanoke. GREGORY, Aline Turner, 75, of Salem, died Thurs day, December 26, 1996. Loving mother of Robert Gregory, Norman Gregory, Judy Cuddy and Debra Hines took a beautiful trip to paradise on December 26, 1996. Jesus was waiting with open arms and welcomed her along with other family members already there and awaiting her arrival. Mama was preceded in death by the most loving daddy we ever knew, Robert Sr. Mom had eleven faithful grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and precious sisters, Peggy Tolbert and Katherine Lewis and brother, Marvin Turner. Our beautiful mom adored us and encouraged us through all our lives. Our sweetest consolation is that she is finally without pain or worry with God, our father, in heaven. HENEGAR, Albert Samuel, 52, of Saltville and Roanoke, died Saturday, December 28, 1996, at his mother's home in Saltville. Mr. Henegar was a native of Saltville, and was preceded in death by a daughter, April Henegar. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Henegar of Roanoke; one son, Richard Henegar of Roanoke; one daughter, Melissa Henegar of Roanoke; his mother, Iva Henegar of Saltville; one brother, Bill Henegar of Glade Spring, and one sister, Sue Teaters of Chilhowie. JOHNSTON, James William, 83, of 1239 Chatham Heights Road, Martinsville, died Friday, December 27, 1996. He was born July 30, 1913, in the Leatherwood section of Henry County, a son of the late John Henry and Essie Reynolds Johnston, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise J. Evans, Geneva J. Cannaday and Nanny J. Richardson, and a brother, J. Noel Johnston. He was an active member of 59 years at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where he had served as Charge Usher for many years and had served on the Administrative Board. He retired from Martinsville Novelty Corporation with 57 years of service, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Lois Gregory Johnston; his children, Donald D. and Helen L. Johnston of Martinsville, N. Carroll and Cathy Johnston of Newark, Del., and Rita J. Smith of Ridgeway; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary J. Franklin of Hampton, Irene J. Truslow of Charlotte, N.C., and Arcille J. Ashby of Martinsville, and one brother, Henry W. Johnston of Eden, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harry B. STOOTS, Edythe Wright, 79, of 603 Randolph Avenue, Pulaski, died Friday morning, December 27, 1996, in Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Grayson County on June 21, 1917, and was the daughter of the late Richard K. Wright and Nina Byrd Wright. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Kenneth Stoots, and by a brother, Cecil Wright. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pulaski. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Roxana S. and George Rasmussen of Roanoke; sisters and brother-in-law, Trula Campbell of Martinsville, and Nell W. and Dr. Donald Greever of Florida; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Genevieve S. and Olin F. Akers of Richmond; grandchildren and spouse, D. Scott and Lori Caudill of Charlottesville and Michael L. Caudill of Roanoke; one great-granddaughter, Morgan Brooke Caudill of Charlottesville, and several nieces and nephews. STUMP, Sibyl, 75, of Roanoke, died Saturday, December 28, 1996, in a local hospital. She retired in 1986 from Roanoke City Schools, with 16 years of service at Melrose Elementary School and Patrick Henry High School, serving as lead Secretary. Miss Stump was a member of First Baptist Church, serving as ``Interim Organist"" for over 37 years. Surviving are a sister, Ruth Birkelund of Bellflower, Calif., nieces and nephews, Jean and Jim Eavey, Nancy and Bob Phelan, Barbara and Charles Beckwith, Carol and Lynn Dent, Jim and Shirley Stump, Judy and Harry Thompson, Bobbie Jo and Larry Massengill, Peter Stump; 15 grand nieces and nephews; and 13 great-grand nieces and nephews. SUMNER, Flora Surratt Montgomery, 107, of Wytheville, passed away Friday, December 27, 1996 in Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born August 27, 1889 in Carroll County, Va. She is survived by a daughter, Canary DeBoer of Pulaski; two sisters, Daisy Alderman of Woodlawn, Lily Myers of Pulaski; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was born in Max Meadows, the daughter of the late Carter Braxton and Laura Ellen Whisman Collins and was a member of the Austinville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chaffin C. Thacker, and a son, Fred A. Thacker. She is survived by two daughters, Madeleine Thacker of Austinville, Louise Thacker of Roanoke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Chaffin C., Jr. and Lorene Thacker of Austinville, Billy B. and Frances Thacker of Austinville, Bobby M. and Janie Thacker of Jefferson City, TN.; eight grandchildren, Larry W. WICKHAM, Raymond L., 71, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, December 27, 1996. He was a member of Rockingham Court United Methodist Church, and a lifetime member of William Byrd P.T.A. Mr. Wickham was a U.S. Air Corps and U.S. Air Force veteran for 27 years. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ray Wickham; a grandson, David A. Wickham, and a great-grandson, Zachary D. Short. Surviving are his wife, Christeen Hunley Wickham; children and their spouses, Reginald D. and Teresa Wickham, Regina W. and Randy Short, Royce D. and Kathy Wickham, Roger D. and Ronda Wickham, Roy D. and Michele Wickham, Rebecca W. and Bob Milliner, and Ronald D. and Theresa Wickham, all of Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, James Wickham of Mary Ester, Fla., and Frank Wickham of Collinsville, and two sisters, Dorothy Sowers of Radford and Pauline Rhoades of Ft. Pierce, Fla. Funeral services will be at Rockingham Court United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 30, 1996, with the Rev. Jo Ellen Hetherington, the Rev. Ben Chidester and the Rev. Leslie Trail officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with military honors by VFW Post #1264. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rockingham Court United Methodist Church or a rescue squad of your choice. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

WILEY, Maycil F. Runion, 81, of Rich Creek, died Thursday, December 26, 1996 at a Pearisburg hospital. Born July 8, 1951 at Sylvia, W. Va.,, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Phinin K. Runion of Narrows, Va. Mrs. Wiley was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis E. Wiley, Sr., her son, Larry E. Wiley, three brothers, Bobby, Cecil and Avery Runion, two sisters, Maxine Hendrickson and Clarice Meredith. Mrs. Wiley was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, DeLois Wiley of Rich Creek, Va., Sylvia Smith and her husband, Robert, of Sheridan, Wyoming; two sons, Dennis E. Wiley, Jr. and his wife Stella, of Rich Creek, Va., Jerry Wiley and his wife, Carol, of Mullens, W. Va.; one sister, Inez Wilkenson of Narrows, Va.; and a brother, Fred Runion of Pence Springs, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 1996, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, W. Va., with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating. Entombment will follow at Birch Lawn Abby at Pearisburg, Va. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Sunday, December 29, 1996, from 6 to 9 p.m.
