FUEL OIL PROMOTES 2 OFFICERS

F. G. "JERRY" HARLESS has been named vice president and chief operating officer of Fuel Oil & Equiment Co. in Roanoke. Harless joined Fuel Oil & Equipment in 1971 and has held various positions with the company. TIMOTHY S. SHELTON has been promoted to vice president of the company's fuel oil division. He joined the company in 1979 and was promoted to general manager in 1993.

ADVERTISING

R. TODD FOUTZ has joined Roanoke advertising firm The Packett Group as account group manager. He will be responsible for developing marketing and advertising strategies for accounts and new business development. Foutz, previously marketing communications manager at Medeco Security Locks in Salem, has been in advertising and marketing for more than 10 years.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Salem/Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce has elected officers and directors for 1997: BAYARD HARRIS of The Center for Employment Law, president; DEE KING of Lawyers Title Insurance Corp., first vice president; JYKE JONES of Jones & Jones Associates Architects, second vice president; PHIL BOGGS, retired from J.C. Penney, treasurer; JUDY GRIESENBROCK of Salem/Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce, secretary. RICK POPLSTEIN of VFP Inc. is past president. LAW

JAMES E. CORNWALL JR. has been appointed county attorney for Lancaster County. He is associated with Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, a Richmond-based law firm specializing in local government law. It represents 11 jurisdictions throughout Virginia, including nine where its attorneys serve as county attorneys. Cornwall works primarily from the firm's Radford office and will continue as county attorney for Craig and several other counties.

NONPROFITS

GERMAINE BRACE has been named director of the Blue Ridge Job Center in Marion. She recently was deputy director of the Training and Development Corp.'s Penobscot Job Corps Center in Maine. TDC, a nationwide nonprofit educational, training and consulting organization, operates the Blue Ridge Job Center, working closely with the Washington County Skill Center, Virginia Highlands Community College and the U.S.Department of Labor.

REAL ESTATE

The Blue Ridge Chapter of the Appraisal Institute has elected officers and directors for 1997: SAMUEL B. LONG, president of Miller, Long and Associates Inc., president; SHERRY P. HILL, owner of Hill Appraisal Service in Christiansburg, vice president; L. STEVEN NOBLE, associate with MIller, Long and Associates Inc., secretary; and MICHAEL A. RUSSELL, treasurer. New directors are RICHARD J. VARNEY, Oberlin Appraisal Service Inc.; THOMAS D. BARLOW, American Real Estate Appraisal Corp.; and CHARLES W. MYERS JR., Myers & Woods Appraisal Group.

DAVID RADFORD, president of Radford & Co. Inc. in Roanoke, has been elected president of the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Inc. for 1997.

VETERINARY

DR. LINDA JENNINGS has opened Brambleton Veterinary Hospital in Roanoke. Dr. Jennings has been practicing veterinary medicine in the Roanoke area for seven years.
