JAMES MADISON HANDS PULASKI GIRLS FIRST DEFEAT

Nicole Jones scored 14 points to lead host James Madison past Pulaski County 49-44 on Saturday night in the championship game of the Bookjammin girls' tournament in Vienna.

The Cougars (7-1) led into the fourth quarter, but could not keep up with the Warhawks' 21 points in the period. Renee Cosby and Meredith Roberts scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for James Madison (7-1).

Robyn Bower led Pulaski County with 14 points and Lisa Skeens contributed 12. Katrina Williams, who made the all-tournament team, added 10 points.

Boys

Bath County 52, Rockbridge County 43: Adam Grist scored 19 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished four assists to lead the Chargers (4-1) past the Wildcats (1-5) in the consolation game of the Indian Holiday Classic in Fort Defiance.

Chris Wright added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Eric Neilsen contributed seven points and eight rebounds for Bath County.

Ricky Wright scored 12 points to lead Rockbridge County.

Alleghany 60, Elkins (W.Va.) 59: Casey Burks scored 16 points, including the winning layup, as the Mountaineers (3-4) topped the Tigers (0-4) in the consolation game of the Elkins Christmas tournament in Elkins, W.Va.

Zack Casto was sent to the free-throw line for two shots with nine seconds remaining and the score tied at 58. He hit the second attempt to give the Tigers a one-point advantage. But Burks drove the length of the floor for a layup with a second left to produce the victory for the Mountaineers.

Casto led Elkins with 14 points.

Staunton River 68, Randolph-Henry 63: Matt Roberts scored a game-high 22 points as the Golden Eagles defeated the Statesmen in the consolation game of the Altavista Christmas tournament.

Randolph-Henry outscored Staunton River 14-8 in the first quarter, but a 23-10 second quarter put the Golden Eagles in front 31-24. Bryan Sink scored 11 of his 17 points in the second quarter to spark the Eagles. Chris Martin added 16 points overall for Staunton River (4-4).

The Statesmen, from Charlotte Courthouse, were led by Tyson Thompson's 18 points.

Friday's game

Huntington (W.Va.) 79, Alleghany 62: Andy Huckabey scored a game-high 23 points to lead Huntington past the Mountaineers in the Elkins Christmas tournament in Elkins, W.Va.

Casey Clemmons scored 17 points for Huntington and Will Horgis added 11 points.

Casey Burks led Alleghany (2-4) with 20 points.
