VIRGINIA DISPATCHES FIU 85-64

THE CAVALIERS regroup at halftime to dominate the Golden Panthers in the FIU Holiday Classic.

A little fine-tuning at halftime was all that No. 10 Virginia required.

Down 32-31 at intermission, the Cavaliers dominated the second half on the way to an 85-64 victory over Florida International in the FIU Holiday Classic. (Box score in Scoreboard. B3)

``We came in at halftime and said we've got to control this team,'' said DeMya Walker, who led Virginia (8-2) with 18 points.

``We struggled in the first half, but we changed the offense in the second half,'' Virginia coach Debbie Ryan said. ``Once Monick Foote got it going, it opened up the middle for Walker.''

Foote scored all of her 10 points in the second half after missing all six of her shots in the first.

Jackie Glessner added a career-high 17 points for Virginia, which built a 51-40 lead six minutes into the second half.

Led by Foote, who scored seven points during that stretch, Virginia didn't let the Golden Panthers (4-4) get closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

Zuzana Michalcova hit two quick jump shots to cut the lead to 56-46 with 10 minutes remaining.

Dalma Ivanyi's three-point play with one second left gave Florida International its one-point lead at the break.

Michalcova led Florida International with 13 points.
