Franklin County's Stacy Menefee placed first in the 103-pound division of the Agie Skeens Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Sunday, helping the Eagles secure a third-place team finish. William Byrd's Daniel Wagner (189 pounds) and Timmy Boothe (215) also captured class championships as the Terriers placed fourth.
Tournament host Grundy won the team title with 333.5 points and was represented in 11 of the 14 championship bouts, winning a tournament-high seven individual titles. Warren Area (Pa.) placed second with 202. Northside (114.5) came in eighth and Rural Retreat (76.5) finished 10th.
Pulaski County's J.R. Osbourne and Franklin County's Thomas Parmelle and Corey Witcher recorded second-place finishes. (Complete results in Scoreboard. B3)
The Roanoke Star Under-18 boys' soccer team is 1-1 at the Cocoa (Fla.) Expo tournament.
Brad Dalton scored two goals to spark a 5-2 victory over South Shore of New Jersey on Saturday, but the Star lost to Pennsylvania champion Delco on Sunday.
