COLLEGE NOTES EAST

EDWARD DONALD REYNOLDS of Roanoke was awarded a bachelor of science degree at East Carolina University at its fall commencement on Dec. 7.

BRIAN WESLEY THOMPSON, son of Wesley and Jean Thompson of Roanoke and a May anthropology graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Membership in the academic honorary society is open to students who have completed 75 graded hours of UNC-CH academic course work with at least a 3.75 quality-point average.

TASHIKA ROMEIL ATWOOD of Roanoke received a bachelor of science degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania at its winter commencement.

THE GEORGE C. MARSHALL FOUNDATION has announced the selection of three Roanoke area students as George C. Marshall Undergraduate Scholars for 1996-97. They are: Erica Pandapas and Mary Kathryn Clifton, students at Hollins College; and James G. Hallis Jr., a Radford student. All will be doing research at the Marshall Library in Lexington.

BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE has announced its Dean's List for the 1996 fall term.

Earning a 3.2 or better grade point average were: Michael Baker of Buchanan, Michelle Brown and Joseph Christian Obenshain of Roanoke, Shannon Harrison, Krista Oyler and Kara Staufer of Salem, and Kelly Rebecca Honeycutt and Jennifer Sink of Blue Ridge.

KEVIN PATRICK BYRNE of Roanoke has been designated a James Monroe Scholar at the College of William and Mary.

To qualify for the honor, a student must rank in the top percentile of his or her class and have SAT scores of at least 1,400. The scholarship offers a $2,000 grant for independent study, special honors classes, and the opportunity to live in an honors residence hall.

VIRGINIA INTERMONT COLLEGE has named local students with a 3.7 or higher grade point average, Amanda L. Belanger and Crystal Ann Moran of Roanoke, to its Dean's List.
