FUNERAL FLORAL FUND SENT TO HELP OTHERS

Roanoke Civic Center employees look after each other like a family. When a co-worker dies, the care does not stop there.

Connie Craig is the chairwoman of the Civic Center's Flower Fund Committee, which collects money for co-workers' funeral flowers. She noticed some money left over after the committee bought flowers for Mary Pickeral, who died of a heart attack just before Thanksgiving.

Craig, who worked with Pickeral for 13 years, said the committee wanted to do something more for her. With the remaining money from the flower collection, the committee made a contribution to the Good Neighbors Fund in memory of Pickeral. The donation was made in the hope that it could be put to good use by people in need.
