CRASH AFTERMATH

LENGTH: Short : 23 lines
ILLUSTRATION: PHOTO: NHAT MEYER STAFF. Paramedics treat a 17-year-old Roanoke

girl, who was injured Thursday in a single-vehicle crash on

southbound Interstate 581 south of the Hershberger Road exit. The

girl, who was not identified because of her age, said she swerved to

avoid a piece of lumber and ran off the road, state police said.

She struck a tree and overturned about 2:55 p.m. A car traveling

behind her ran over the wood but was not involved in the accident.

The teen was trapped for about 10 minutes until firefighters

extricated her from the car. She was taken to Carilion Roanoke

Memorial Hospital, where she was in stable condition Thursday night.

She was charged with reckless driving.
