AMOS, Annie Hill, 90, of Roanoke Co., passed away Wednesday, January 1, 1997. She was the daughter of William D. and Mabel T. Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie E. Amos and a son, Edmund S. Amos. Surviving are three sons, Paul E. Amos, Billy E. Amos, both of Roanoke County, Bobby W. Amos, Roanoke; daughters, Betty Amos and Norma J. McCormick, both of Hendersonville, Tenn.; also surviving are eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Saturday, January 4, 1997 at Red Hill Church of God, with the Rev. Harry Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in Amos Family Cemetery, Roanoke County. BOLDEN, Betty, 91, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, December 30, 1996, at Community Hospital. Surviving family members include a daughter, Lucinda Blaney; a son, Daniel Bolden; grandchildren, Diana Blaney, Johnnie (Gary) Bonds; great-grandchildren, Anthony Blaney, Latonya Bolden, Rashon Bolden, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. CLARK, Mildred Padgett, 78, of Virginia Beach, and formerly of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 1997. She was born April 30, 1918 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Marvin A. Padgett and Pearl Creasy Padgett. She was a retired registered nurse and was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Virginia Government Employees Association and the Timber Ridge Baptist Church. She is survived by two brothers, Basil A. Padgett, James A. Padgett, both of Bedford; a sister, Audrey Padgett Wright, Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 4, 1997, at 11 a.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Wayne Murphy. CREASY, Merle Smith, 96, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 1997, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born November 4, 1900, in Toccoa, Ga., a daughter of the late Harvey Neal Smith and Amanda Susan Walker Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Gordon Creasy; and two sons, Robert Cecil ``Bobby'' Creasy and Harvey Lynn Creasy. She was a graduate of Grady Hospital Training School for Nurses in Atlanta, Ga. She was an employee of Bedford County Memorial Hospital as nurse and secretary until she resigned due to ill health. She was a member of the Thaxton Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs Helen McLeod, Brandon, Fla., Mrs. Gaylord (Cindy) Grissom, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Joe (Elizabeth) Sanderson, Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Catherine Creasy, Bedford; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Clara Smith, Toccoa, Ga.; six grandsons, Ralph McLeod, Brandon, Fla., Jeffrey Grissom, Gordon Grissom, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Joseph Sanderson, Bedford, Mark Creasy, Roanoke, Richard Creasy, Bedford; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 4, 1997, at 1 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Dr. Michael Du Val. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. DE SHAZO, Kathryn Raines, 71, of Melbourne Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, December 31, 1996, in Melbourne, Fla. She was born in Lynchburg on May 27, 1925, and moved from Roanoke to So. Brevard County in 1996. She was a retired secretary with the Virginia State School System, and a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church, Roanoke. She is surv ived by her husband, T. P. ``Tom'' De Shazo of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Tom Jr. and Helen De Shazo of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah De Shazo Thomas, Suellen De Shazo and Stan Adams, all of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Hazel Raines Williams of Lynchburg; brother, Wallace S. DOBYNS, Paul Phillip Jr., 60, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, January 2, 1997. Mr. Dobyns was a member of Fort Lewis Baptist Church. He is survived by four daughters, Stephanie D. Dobyns, Roanoke, Katherine V. Dobyns, Roanoke, Sylvia L. Rinehart, Lynchburg, Angela D. Brizendine, Lynchburg; 12 grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret (Peggy) Dobyns, Vinton, Mrs. Paul (Nancy) Wood, Roanoke, Phyllis Breedlove and her husband, J. C., Big Island, Cecelia Chapman and husband, David, Salem; brothers, Allen F. Dobyns, Terry P. Dobyns and wife, Christa, all of Lynchburg. GIVENS, Irvin Carlile, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 1997. He was the owner of Givens Antique Glassware. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Moore Givens; son, George Franklin Givens, Cary, N. C.; da ughter-in-law, Mary Ann Barneck, Cary, N.C.; daughter, Louise Carlile Givens, Anaheim Hills, Calif.; grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Schoemmell, Richmond, Catherine Elise Reynolds, San Jose, Calif., Gregory Franklin Givens, Meridith McCollum Givens, and Andrew Ryan Givens, all of Cary, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Schoemmell and Caitlin Ann Schoemmell, both of Richmond. HAUSER, Rev. Roscoe C. Jr., 88, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Thursday, January 2, 1997, at his residence. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Garrett Hauser of Fayetteville, N.C.; three daughters, Barbara Bryan-Jones of Buchanan, Ann Garst of Roanoke, and Elisabeth Hauser of Boones Mill; five grandsons. KELLY, Pastor Gary Edsel, 64, of Route #1, Crockett, died late Wednesday evening, January 1, 1997, at his residence. He was born November 26, 1932 in Glade Hill, (Franklin County), the son of the late Lucian Ted and Minnie Alice Smith Kelly. Pastor Kelly was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a former fireman with the Roanoke City Fire Department, and had worked for the Texaco Oil Company. He served as Lutheran Pastor at the Floyd-Willis Parish for eleven years, and the Cripple Creek Parish in Crockett for 14 years. Surviving are his wife, Betty Lou Kelly of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deidre Kelly and Garvice Jones of Boones Mill, Christina Marie Kelly of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary William Kelly, Timothy David and Jennifer Kelly, Michael Goebel and Judy Kelly, all of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Sean Kelly, Erin Kelly, Brandon Kelly, Katie Kelly, Monica Cowden, Angela Jones, and Amy Jones; his mother-in-law, Admiral Cole of Roanoke. A funeral celebration for Pastor Kelly will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 1997, at the United Lutheran Church with Bishop Richard F. Bansemer, Pastor Jim Bangle, Pastor Ed Schaack, and Pastor Joe Shumate officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date. The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the United Lutheran Memorial Fund. The family will receive friends at the residence at any time and following the services at the church with a potluck luncheon. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, is handling the arrangements.

MARTIN, Pattie Lee, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, December 30, 1996. Funeral services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Rev. Solomon Pettiford will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. McNEEL, Margaret Beard, 90, of Salem, died Wednesday, January 1, 1997. She is survived by one sister, Martha Stacey, Lewisburg, W.Va.; a nephew and his wife, George T. and Ruby McNeel, Cheltenham, Md.; three nieces and husbands, Jean and Harold Crane, Lewisburg, W.Va., Judy and Richard Lacey, Charlottte Hall, Md., Annette and Steve Marsh, Crosby, Texas. Graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Ken Nienke officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lotz Salem Chapel.

MILLER, Jean Mason, 51, of Brooklyn, N. Y., formerly of Roanoke Va. , died Monday, December 30, 1996 after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Carpenter; and is the daughter of Ethel and John Miller, Roanok e; and is also survived by her daughter, Jane Mason McManus, Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sister and brother-in-law, Jane Miller and Robert Colby, Larchmont, N.Y.; her niece and namesake, Jean Miller Colby, Larchmont, N.Y.; also an uncle and aunt, Phil and Marty Mason, Blacksburg, Va. and Mary Stuart Mason, Richmond, Va.; she also leaves a number of special cousins. Jean graduated from Bryn Mawr College, and held an MBA from James Madison University and did Doctoral work at the University of Nebraska. Memorial services will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Roanoke, on Monday, January 6, 1997 at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Allen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

MITCHELL, Alfred Bernard (``Mitch"") 44 of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 1997. He was born in Roanoke to the late Edward and Frances Ferguson Mitchell. ``Mitch"" graduated in 1972 from William Fleming High School where he excelled in sports. He was especially talented in football and received several local awards and earned a scholarship to Elizabeth City State University. After college he shared his abilities with are kids as a coach at the Northwest Recreation Club. He was preceded death by his parents and just recently by his sister, Veronica Lynn Mitchell who passed away on December 17, 1996. He is survived by one daughter, Revonda T. Barber; two sisters, Francine M. Mitchell and Evelyn (``Xavier"") Fox; two brothers, Michael D. Mitchell and Edward Wayne Mitchell, all of Roanoke; uncles and aunts, Condra Mitchell, N.C., Thornton Bonds, Doris Larmar, Edward Saunders, Bertha Blaney, Marlene and Samuel Scott, John and Bernice Ferguson, all of Roanoke, Flontine and Roy Mitchell, N.C. and Maryanna Mitchell, N.J.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, 11 a.m. at Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Roberts will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday 7 to 8 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

MITCHELL, Mary Fannie Key, 87, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 1997, in a Salem convalescent home. She was a long time member of Melrose United Methodist Church, dating back to February 1924. In later years, she attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class and Circle #1. Mrs. Mitchell was the widow of Richard B. Mitchell, and also was preceded in death by a son, Charles Richard Mitchell. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Donna G. Mitchell; three grandchildren and spouses, Charles B. Mitchell, William R. and Sonya M. Mitchell, all of Roanoke, Charlene L. and Michael Branch, Natural Bridge Station; four great-grandchildren, Kristina M. Mitchell, Monica Orange, Zachary J. Mitchell and Jarrett R. Mitchell; and a sister-in-law, Clara Franklin, Huddleston. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 1997 from Oakey's North Chapel. The Rev. C. Warner Crumb and the Rev. John Furman will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel.
