Full Moon changing owners, not format
The Full Moon Cafe, a downtown Roanoke restaurant and nightspot, has been sold, but the new owner said he will keep the name and event schedule intact while expanding the menu.
Don Brisco of Shawsville, who has been in the restaurant business for 17 years and has worked at Hotel Roanoke, bought the cafe from brothers Jim and Bill Woodson, who opened it in April 1995. Terms were not disclosed.
Brisco plans to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu to include shrimp scampi and eggs Benedict. The Tuesday night poetry slams and Wednesday open-mic nights will continue, he said, as will weekend concerts. The bar also will remain in service.
The scheduled reopening date is Jan. 13, although Brisco said renovations to the kitchen might delay the opening a week or so.

Abbott settles ad charges on Ensure
WASHINGTON - Abbott Laboratories is settling charges with the Federal Trade Commission of false advertising in a national campaign that promoted its Ensure nutritional drink for healthy, active adults.
The FTC alleged that the Abbott Park, Ill., company claimed without adequate proof that doctors recommend Ensure as a meal supplement and replacement for healthy adults.
Abbott has agreed to make only those claims about a food or dietary or nutritional supplement that can be supported by ``competent and reliable'' scientific evidence, the FTC said.
