REFORM PARTY MEETS TODAY FOR RECALL BILL

The 9th Congressional District contingent of the Virginia Independent/Reform Party will meet at 1:30 p.m. today to plan a push for methods for citizens to override laws passed by the legislature and recall elected officials with whom they are displeased.

The meeting will be in the Wytheville Municipal Building. It is open to all.

The proposed legislative initiative would provide a means through referendums to approve or reject laws or sections of laws passed by the General Assembly and signed by the governor. A recall option would allow citizens to replace elected officials before their terms are up.

A bill for these measures exists in a legislative committee, but has not reached the voting stage in the legislature for the past 18 years.

Further information on the meeting is available from Mary Clare Wohlford at (540)228-6317.
