Ninth-ranked Virginia wasted an eight-point halftime lead as No. 21 Clemson won the battle of the boards and the game, beating the Cavaliers 58-44 on Saturday night in Charlottesville.
Itoro Umoh had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers, who outrebounded Virginia 54-30 in the ACC matchup. Laura Cottrell also grabbed 11 rebounds and Natasha Anderson had 10. Clemson (10-2 overall, 1-2 conference) dominated inside, shooting 29 free throws to 15 for the Cavaliers.
Tiffany Bower came off the bench to lead UVa (8-3, 1-1) with 14 points and six rebounds.
In other women's games involving Virginia teams:
Radford 82, Belmont 74: Dana Schnell scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds, and guard Kim Hairston from Bassett High School added 20 points to lead the Highlanders (4-8) past the Bruins (10-4) in Radford.
Radford also got 16 points from Rebecca McNeil (Christiansburg).
Washington and Lee 64, Virginia Wesleyan 49: Tonia Dean scored a school-record 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Generals past the Marlins in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game in Norfolk.
W&L (3-4, 1-3) shot 61 percent (14-of-23) from the field in the second half to break open the game as the junior center scored 18 after intermission.
Virginia Wesleyan, which hit 26 percent (19-of-72) from the floor, was led by Leanna Lillefloren's 20 points.
