FLEMING TURNS BACK AMHERST

Roland Reynolds scored 13 points Saturday to lead William Fleming to a 63-44 non-district win over Amherst County in Amherst.

After going even in the first quarter, the Colonels (5-3) outscored the Lancers 19-9 in the second quarter to take over. Charles Burnette and Jeron Walker scored 12 and 10 points respectively for the Colonels.

Demasco Taylor led the Lancers with 11 points.

In other games:

Franklin County 56, Bassett 53: Henry Eggleston scored 13 points and Kermit Noel and Bobby Basham each scored 12 as the Eagles held off the Bengals in a non-district contest in Bassett.

For the second consecutive night, Bassett had the ball with a chance to tie at the end. The Bengals called a timeout with less than 10 seconds remaining and got the ball to Keith Harvey, who launched a 3-point shot that glanced off the rim at the buzzer.

Andre Fuller had 15 points to lead Bassett, while Corey Manns chipped in 11.

Girls

William Fleming 50, Amherst County 20: The Colonels had more points by halftime (23) than the Lancers scored in the entire game in pulling away for a non-district win at home.

Tonia Brown led William Fleming (5-3) with 11 points. Renita Walker had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals and Kiann Trent scored 10 points.
