The Roanoke Express completed a two-game sweep of the Knoxville Cherokees behind Ilya Dubkov's four-point night in a 5-2 victory Saturday at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.
Roanoke (20-11-3), which has won nine of 10 games, scored the first four goals. The Express led 3-0 after one period on goals by J.F. Tremblay, Jeff Jablonski and Dubkov.
Tremblay's goal was his first this season and it came two minutes into the game. Jablonski scored at 8:02 on a breakaway assisted by Dubkov, who made it 3-0 with a power-play goal at 17:24 of the first.
Dubkov has scored at least one point in 13 straight games and has 28 points in his past 13 games.
After Roanoke's Chris Lipsett scored a power-play goal early in the second period to make it 4-0, Knoxville (12-18-1) got goals from Jim Brown and Darren Johnson a minute apart to make it 4-2.
With less than two minutes left in the second, Express defenseman Dave Stewart took a drop pass from Dubkov and unleashed a one-timer from near the blue line that eluded Knoxville goaltender Brad Guzda.
The Express rode its neutral-zone trap in a scoreless third period to pull out its fifth consecutive road victory. Roanoke goalie Dave Gagnon stopped 35 shots in improving to 18-7-3 this season.
