FLOYD COUNTY STAYS UNBEATEN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Travis Cantrell and Jason Dalton scored 23 points each Saturday as Floyd County remained unbeaten with a 78-57 non-district win over Galax in Floyd.

Dalton grabbed eight rebounds and Cantrell had seven assists for the Buffaloes (9-0).

Doc Hall led the Maroon Tide with 20 points.

In other games:

Bland 69, Chilhowie 57: Lee Meadows scored 21 points as the Rockets dropped the Warriors in a non-district contest in Bland.

John Thompson scored 20 points, including four three-pointers, to help the Rockets (5-2).

Earl Allen scored 25 points to lead the Warriors (4-5).

Harrisonburg 73, Rockbridge County 62: The Blue Streaks did just that after the intermission, as Harrisonburg outscored the Wildcats 31-13 in the third quarter en route to a non-district victory in Lexington.

Robbie Roadcap scored 11 of his 25 points and Chad Summers poured in three 3-pointers as the Blue Streaks turned a 26-24 halftime deficit into a 16 point lead heading into the final eight minutes. Summers finished with 13 points for Harrisonburg.

Ricky Wright had 12 points to lead Rockbridge County, while Jaymie Terrell added 10.

Buffalo Gap 75, Bath County 65: Jeff Jennings scored 18 points to lead the Bison (3-6) past the Chargers (4-2) in a non-district game in Swoope.

Chad Townsend added 16 points and Marc Craun 10 for Buffalo Gap.

Adam Grist scored a career-high 29 points to lead Bath County.

Fort Chiswell 81, Auburn 61: Heath Bralley scored a game-high 21 points as the Pioneers defeated the Eagles in a non-district matchup in Riner.

Bralley scored 12 of his points, including all three of his 3-pointers, in the second quarter as Fort Chiswell outscored the hosts 28-17 to take a 19-point halftime lead. Jason Porter added 12 points for the Pioneers.

Phil Morris led Auburn with 15 points.

Friday's games

Shawsville 56, James River 44: The Shawnees decreased their turnovers and increased their victory total from zero to one. After averaging 30 turnovers a game, Shawsville had 16 in a non-district victory over the visiting Knights.

Lynden Ryan led the Shawnees (1-6) with 14 points and Chance Hall had nine. Sophomore Simon Jones, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound forward, scored six in his second game since recovering from a broken hand suffered in the first week of practice.

Travis Blankenship led James River (3-6) with 14 points and Philip Meador had 10.

Laurel Park 67, Tunstall 58: The Lancers blew a 14-point lead before regrouping for a non-district victory in Dry Fork.

Laurel Park scored 11 points from the free-throw line in the final two minutes after Tunstall (3-7) had battled back to tie the score at 54.

Jeff Slade led the Lancers with 23 points and Tony Carter added 13.

Tunstall got 18 points from Lashon Adkins and 14 from Derek Rogers.

William Campbell 61, Magna Vista 57: Chauncey Walker scored 25 points to lead the Generals to a non-district victory in Naruna.

Dominique Dews made six of eight free throws in fourth quarter for William Campbell (4-6).

Harvey Millner led Magna Vista (5-3) with 15 points.

Dan River 58, Martinsville 55: Lloyd Tillman's late free throw snapped a 55-55 tie Friday to give Dan River (2-8) a non-district upset victory over Martinsville.

Tillman, who scored a game-high 20 points, hit another free throw as did teammate Jeremy McCormick to account for all the late scoring. Martinsville (3-4) was paced by Kelsey Green with 15 and Leander Preston with 12.
