DAYTONA TESTS GET UNDERWAY

With veteran crew chief Tim Brewer turning the wrenches for Sterling Marlin, and Elton Sawyer handling the driving for ailing Ward Burton, General Motors testing got under way Monday at Daytona International Speedway.

It will be formally announced today that Brewer is replacing Tony Glover as crew chief on the Chevrolet driven by Marlin and owned by Morgan-McClure Motorsports.

Brewer, who spent many years with car owner Junior Johnson, most recently was the crew chief for John Andretti and Kranefuss-Haas Racing in 1996. Neither Brewer or Andretti lasted the year there. Glover left the team to join car owner Felix Sabates as Robby Gordon's crew chief.

Meanwhile, Sawyer was driving Burton's No. 22 MBNA Pontiac on Monday because Burton is scheduled to undergo sinus surgery Wednesday in an effort to stop severe headaches he suffered during the off-season. Burton was at the track, but not behind the wheel.
