Bath County junior forward Eric Nielsen made one of two free throws with six seconds to go as Bath County held off Riverheads 43-41 Monday in a non-district basketball matchup in Staunton.
Bath County (5-2) led 42-38 when the Gladiators' Matt Schuler hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds to go. Nielsen got fouled and went to the line. Schuler missed another 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won it for Riverheads (2-8).
Adam Grist led Bath with 16 points.
Bland 57, Shawsville 44: Lee Meadows scored seven of his 17 points in a big second quarter as the Rockets defeated the Shawnees in a non-district game in Bland. John Thompson had 12 points and Jamie Dunn added 10 for the Rockets.
Parry McCluer 58, Wilson Memorial 55: The Fighting Blues wasted an early 13-point lead before rallying to beat the visitors from Fishersville in Buena Vista. Mike Clark led Parry McCluer (8-0) with 13 points. David Coleman, David Downs and Mike Decker scored 11 each.
