BROOKS, Eula Dabney, (``Polly""), 79, of Route 2, Pearisburg, died Saturday, January 4, 1997, in Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on June 17, 1917, and was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Dabney, and two sons, Estol G. Brooks Jr. and Douglas Fairbanks. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pearisburg, where she was the mother of the church and had served as a Sunday school teacher for eight years. She is survived by her husband, Estol G. Brooks Sr. of Pearisburg; two sons and their wives, Everette E. (``Tony"") Brooks and Charlsie of Huntsville, Ala., and Dewey M. Brooks and Joan of Pearisburg; four grandchildren, Anthony Brooks of Atlanta, Ga., Everett Brooks Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., Elliott G. Brooks of Memphis, Tenn., and Stephanie Clark of Northfork, W.Va., and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Pearisburg, with the Rev. Michael Bratton officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows. CATRON, James Edward (``Jim""), 80, of Goodview, went to be with the Lord Sun day, January 5, 1997. He was a retired farmer and was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva B. (``Tootsie"") Catron; a son, Carlton Lewis Catron; a grandson, Wilbur L. Catron. He is survived by six sons, Frank (``Ed"") Catron of Vinton, Wilford (``Willie"") Catron, Thomas (``Tommy"") Catron, both of Goodview, Marvin (``Butch"") Catron of Salem, Gerald (``Buck"") Catron, Sr. of Moneta, Carl Richard (``Ducky"") Catron, of Thaxton; three daughters, Ruby C. Thomasson, Carolyn S. Catron both of Goodview, and Shirley (``Jean"") Gonzalez of Vinton; one brother, Kyle B. Catron, of Florida; two sisters, Edna C. Merrell and Clara C. COLEMAN, Shirley May, 60, of Vinton, passed away Sunday, January 5, 1997. She was a member of the Oakview Worship Center Church of God. She was predeceased by her father, Clark Jackson and her father-in-law, Fred T. Coleman. Surviving are her husband, George E. Coleman; daughters, Don na Shingleton and husband, James, Debbie Gross and husband, Stephen; grandchildren, Mandy Porter and Stephen Gross II., all of Vinton; her mother, Doris Jackson; brothers, Chester Jackson, Clark Jackson and wife, Clarise, all of Baltimore; mother-in-law, Clara Coleman, Vinton; several nieces and nephews. DUDLEY, Goldie Barnhart, Born on November 21, 1906 went to be with the Lord on January 6, 1997. She was preceded in death by her dearly beloved husband, Robert Vernon Dudley; a beloved son, Buford E. Dudley; and a dear sister, Anna Basham. She is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law, James V. and Sandra Dudley, Clara Dudley, all of Hardy; four daughters and sons-in-laws, Dotty and Lucky Shelor, Roanoke, Jean and Stuart McGuire, Vinton, Lois and Wilfred McGuire, Hardy, Betty Lou and Buford Booth, Hardy; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and sister-in-law, Joe and Madeline Barnhart, and Roy Barnhart; a very dear friend, Hallie Brown, all of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Florence Maxey, Roanoke; brother and sister-in-law, DeWitt and Rachel Dudley of Callaway; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 1997 at Ninth Street Church of the Brethren with Reverend John Huffaker, Reverend Berkley Stevens and Reverend Graham Sowers officiating. GLASS, Elizabeth Doswell Knight, 90, of Buena Vista died Monday, January 6, 1997 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born in Buena Vista on October 23, 1906, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Perry Knight, Sr. and Julia Ann Goodwin Knight. Mrs. Glass was a teacher and a substitute teacher in the Buena Vista Public Schools. Along with a brother and sister, she was an owner of B.P. Knight's Store. She was a graduate of Mary Baldwin College and Ohio State University. She was a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution; The Retired Teachers Association and Chi Omega Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hartwell Glass, Jr.; and a brother, Benjamin Perry Knight, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Thomas H. Glass, III and wife Ann, Buena Vista and Benjamin K. Glass, Moneta; sister and brother-in-law, Julia Ann Knight Eifler and Charles W. Eifler, Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters-in-law, Jean Garvin Knight, Buena Vista, and Kathleen Glass Timberlake, Lexington; five grandchildren, Joseph Goodwin Glass, ``Rock"" White, Owen White, Aleida Martin and Walt White; four step great-grandchildren. Born in Mercer County, W.Va.., she was a daughter of the late Frank B. and Minnie Bailey Spencer. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was co-owner of Audrey & Billie's Fabric Store for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, August E. (``Doc"") Griffith. JOHNS, Sue Baird, 92, died Sunday, January 5, 1997 at the South Roanoke Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Johns had been a resident of Roanoke since 1980, when she moved from Miami, Fla. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, as was her late husband, Charles B. J ohns. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church in Miami, she was active in numerous roles at Trinity Cathedral and also was well known in South Florida Duplicate Bridge Tournaments. Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. William B. Houck, Roanoke, Mrs. Robert V. Christian, Woodbridge; three grandchildren, William B. Houck, Jr., Roanoke, Mrs. Wesley Blanchard, Valdosta, Ga., Mrs. Donald E. Cooke, Springfield; also seven great-grandchildren. KEITH, Hazel Atkinson, (Nana ) 87, was taken to her heavenly home on January 6, 1997 although a life long resident of Shawsville, she had lived the past few years in Salem with her daughter due to failing health. Preceded in death by her husband Lawrence W. (Red) Keith and a grandson Ricky Hurst. Survived by daughters and son-in-laws, Colleen and Marvin Moore of Salem; Geraldine and M. V. MacMacKin of Shawsville; Jean K. Hurst of Shawsville; sons, Charles E. (Buddy) Keith of Shawsville; and Larry W. Keith of Shawsville; a sister, Lula Atkinson of Shawsville. There are 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. These were her natural grandchildren but she was known as ""Nana"" to countless others. KRAHE, Matthew J.M. of Florida, formerly of Olean, N.Y. died Thursday, December 26, 1996 at his home. Born February 10, 1963, in Olean, he was a son of David and Irene Skrzypezak Krahe. On August 12, 1989, at St. John's Church, Olean, he married Brenda L. Cucchiaro, who survives. Mr. Krahe had lived in Florida since August 1996. He was a graduate of Olean High School and a graduate of Virginia Tech University with a bachelor of science degree in Architecture. Mr. Krahe was employed at Johnson Peterson Architects Inc. in Sarasota, Fla. He was a past member of St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean. He was predeceased by a brother, Mark David Krahe. Besides his wife, he is survived by his parents of Olean; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Pam Krahe of Brockport, N.Y.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lee and Howard Sugar of Sarasota, Fla., Michele and David Peace of Chardon, OH., and Maureen and Tom Yanetsko of Olean, N.Y., and Marcy Ann (Steve) Tyler of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and 10 nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated December 31, 1996 at St. John's Church. Burial was in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to the Matthew J.M. OWENS, Dr. Milton A., 71, of Abingdon, died Sunday, January 5, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Dickinson County and had lived in Abingdon for the past forty years where he had a private denistry practice. He was a member of the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon. He completed his undergraduate studies at Emory & Henry College and later attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Dade where he performed in a Bluegrass Band. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Mullins Owens; two sons, Dr. Gregory Owens, Abingdon, Michael Owens, Abingdon; one daughter, Sandra Smeltzer, Salem; two brothers, Francis Owens, Birch Leaf, Buford Owens, Wayne, Mich.; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. PRICE, Cecil Bascom, 78 of Pearisburg died Monday, January 6, 1997 in the Veterans Hospital, Salem. Mr. Price was born in Giles County on May 25, 1918 and was a son of the late Charles Price and Mable Farewell Price. Mr. Price was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a pipefitter having retired from the Hoechst-Celanesc Corp. He was a member of the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church. ROBERTS, Donald Franklin, 71, of Salem, died Monday, January 6, 1997. He was born in Ashland, W.Va., to the late Frank and Bertha Roberts. He was owner and operator of Roberts Welding & Iron Works, Inc., before his retirement in 1985. He served in the Navy in World War II and again in the Korean Conflict. He belonged to the Taylor Lodge AF & AM #23, the Scottish Rite, and Kazim Temple. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eula Hinchee Roberts; three sisters-in-law and husbands, Irene Kelly, Roanoke, Ethel and Virgil Strong, Catawba, Mae and William Emfinger, California; a special aunt, Beulah Kennedy, New Mexico; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Lester G. Wertz officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. SEMONES, Gentry Wilson, 72, of Hillsville, died Saturday, January 4, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem. He was a retired auto body repairman and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a lifelong member of Hillsville VFW and First Baptist Church of Hillsville. He was the son of the late Johnson Gentry and Mary Susan Semones. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeff Semones and E. O. (``Mutt"") Semones. Survivors include his wife, Lois N. WHITE, Iva Davis, 78, of Fries, died Sunday, January 5, 1997, in Twin County Regional Hospital. Mrs. White was born in Wythe County on January 4, 1919, to Fred Davis and Rethie Henley Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Eugene White. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Kathy White, Fries; a sister, Mary Ellen Jonas, Covington; two grandchildren, Victoria White, Ethan White. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, 12 noon, in the Providence Cemetery, with the Rev. Fred Jennings officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax

WOLFE, Louise P., (Nee Parker), of Takoma Park, Md., died Sunday, January 5, 1997, after a long hospitalization. She was formerly of Roanoke and Baltimore and was the widow of Marvin L. Wolfe. Surviving are her daughter, Martha, and son-in-law, Robert Anderson; one grandson, Michael; one sister, Ruth Zeller; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 1997, from Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Walter M. Lockett Jr. officiating. Interment will be in B lue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, Va. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel, Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke, Va.
