KING CHEATS WIND TO WIN SENIOR EVENT

Roanoke's Billy King fired a final-round of 1-under par 71 on Thursday, his highest score of the week, to win the 13th annual UST PGA Senior Stroke Play Championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

King, the head pro at Blue Hills Golf Club, carded a three-day total of 208, four strokes ahead of Bill Kennedy of Fort Myers, Fla. King earned $2,000 as the overall low scorer in two age groups (50-54 and 55-59) at the 6,292-yard Haig course at the PGA National Resort & Spa.

``The wind made it a little rougher today,'' King said. ``But it blew pretty steady, about two clubs' difference.''

King made four birdies and three bogies on Thursday for 54-hole totals of 15 birdies and seven bogies. It was his first victory in the 44th annual PGA Winter Tournament Program.
