2 MEN CHARGED IN BEATING TAXI DRIVER

Two men were charged Wednesday with beating a taxi driver with a hammer and stealing his cab this week in Stewartsville.

Kevin Dexter Hancock, 22, of Goodview and Brent Elton Gray, 19, of Vinton were charged with one felony count each of carjacking, malicious wounding and robbery in the attack on Doug Conner, 51, an employee of Yellow Cab Co.

Conner picked up two men in Stewartsville early Monday who robbed him, beat him in the face and head with a hammer, then stole his cab. Conner was treated and released. The cab was recovered the same day.
