The town will hold a public hearing on its five-year capital-improvement plan Tuesday night. The plan calls for about $2 million in capital-improvement spending for fiscal year 1997-98, which begins July 1.
The hearing is part of a Town Council meeting that begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. Town Council is expected to vote on approving the budget at its Jan. 28 meeting.
The 1997-98 budget is $29,697 less than this year's.. It grants about half of the $3.94 million asked for by town departments, council, town-appointed boards, commissions, task forces and committees.
Included in the proposed budget:
*$295,000 for the town's ongoing street repaving program
*$25,000 toward the $500,000 Lyric Theatre renovation, to begin this summer.
*$95,813 starting in fiscal year 2001-02 toward the construction of a parking deck in the Armory parking lot on Draper Road. The two-level structure would add 22 public parking spaces downtown. The remainder of the $360,292 project would be funded over the next two years.
*$150,000 for the Clay Street extension project. The $876,246 project is expected to be fully funded by fiscal year 2001-02.
*$10,000 to buy land and items such as benches for the town's Greenway System.
*$32,500 toward the construction of the Greenway System.
*$62,000 for on- and off-road bikeways.
