Health screenings for employees

BLACKSBURG - Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital is offering special health screenings and physicals during January and February to businesses and industries in the New River Valley.

The goal is to help employees maintain good health.

The health screening will include a cholesterol and glucose check, a blood-pressure screening, a height and weight measurement and a body fat analysis that includes target weight and basic metabolic rate, said Vanessa L. Martin, health and wellness coordinator for the hospital.

The hospital also will offer discounted employee physicals at Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital and at Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital.

Leadership classes at junior college

DUBLIN - New River Community College is offering a career-studies certificate in organizational leadership and development for employees of area businesses.

The first class, principles of supervision I, will begin Jan. 20 at Blacksburg's public works complex. The class will meet on Mondays from 6 to 8:45 p.m.

Other classes, which will be at the Dublin campus, include principles of supervision II, organizational behavior, keyboarding for computer use, microcomputer applications in business and introduction to the Internet.
