Some proposed ethics bills before the 1997 General Assembly:
* Prohibit contributions during session
The governor, the lieutenant governor, the attorney general and all 140 legislators would be prohibited from soliciting or collecting campaign contributions while the General Assembly is in session.
* Limit political party fund raising
Candidates would not be allowed to solicit contributions for political party committees while the General Assembly is in session.
* Electronic filing
The state Board of Elections would be required to accept computerized campaign contribution reports.
* Lobbyist disclosure
Lobbyists would have to report any gift to a legislator that is worth more than $25 and would have to disclose the name of the legislator who received the gift.
* Lawmaker disclosure
Lawmakers would have to disclose any gift they receive worth more than $25 and would have to estimate the compensation received from any business they represent before a state agency. They now have to indicate only whether the compensation is between $1,000 and $10,000 or more than $10,000.
