AKERS, Willie Mae, 68, of Christiansburg, died Friday night, January 10, 1997, at her home. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Smith of Shawsville and Mary Jane Akers of Christiansburg. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Richard Horne, with interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. BARBOUR, Katherine Louise, 80, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 11, 1997, in a local hospital. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Carl V. and Shelby Barbour, Roanoke, William D. and Sharon Barbour, Blue Ridge and Robert W. and Peggy Barbour, Roanoke; sisters, Mrs. Buddy (Norma) Utt, Boones Mill, Mrs. Lorraine Hartinger, Roanoke; three sisters-in-law; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 13, 1997, with the Rev. Way ne Harrison officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. BROWN, Pauline Wiley, 80, of Radford, passed away Friday, January 10, 1997, at her residence. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Radford. Mrs. Brown was a retired inspector for Burlington Industries in Radford. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Spangler Brown, and two sisters, Dorothy Warden and Phyllis Lawson. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Pat Harmon of Christiansburg; one brother, Leon Crouch of Arizona; one sister, Ruby Stowers of Rocky Gap; four grandchildren, Teresa Becher, Barry Harmon, Kasey Kenley and Hud Harmon, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 1997, at Central United Methodist Church in Radford, with the Rev. Warren Wattenbarger and Pastor Jerry C. Gibson officiating. CAMPBELL, Nathalie McCulloch, 58, of 593 Longhook Rd., Eden, N.C., died Friday, January 10,1997 at North Caroline Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born on April 29, 1938 in Rockbridge County, Va. to the late William Crawford and Dollie Goodbar Clemmer. She was a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church, Draper, N.C. She was a leader in Awana Group at the church and a member of the Maranatha Sunday School Class. She was predeceased in death by a son, R. M. McCulloch and two grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Sheila M.) Harmon; three brothers, William Clemmer of Baltimore, Md., Phillip Clemmer and John Trent Clemmer, both of Buchanan; four sisters, Virginia Hall, Bernice Campbell, Ferrell Amos and Patricia Hylton, all of Lynchburg, Va.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday at Tomlinson Funeral Home, Ridgeway, Va. A 3 p.m. Graveside service at Montvale Baptist Church, Montvale, Va., will be Monday, with the Rev. Gene Graham and Charles R. Tomlinson officiating. CLARK, Roy Elmer, 89, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, January 11, 1997, in Gretna Health Care Center. Born on February 7, 1907, in Bedford County, he was a son of the late John Henry Clark and Clara Simms Clark. Mr. Clark was married to the late Dorothy Weringo Clark. He was a member of Bedford Church of God, and was a retired farmer. Mr. Clark is survived by one daughter, Phyllis C. Dawson of Hurt; one son, Ronnie Clark; one sister, Gertrude Mullins of Boones Mill, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 13, 1997, at Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. J. R. Ivins. Interment will follow in Altavista Memorial Park. FERGUSON, Zellwood Sweeney, of Fairfax, died Friday, January 10, 1997, at Fair Oaks Hospital. She was the wife of the late William E. Ferguson of Roanoke, and the daughter of the late Peter E. and Josephine Cameron Strickler Sweeney of Floyd. She also was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Peggy S. Harris, and three brothers, Ballard Sweeney, Lynnworth Sweeney and Thomas Strickler Sweeney. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth F. and James G. Simpson of Fairfax; granddaughter and her husband, Paula S. and Joseph F. Wolfe II of David, Fla.; grandchildren, Crystal S. Thompson of Fairfax, James W. Thompson of Winchester, and Joseph F. Wolfe III and Jaclyn S. Wolfe of Davie, Fla.; sisters, Loma Dell Lowe, Margaret Hargrove and Lois Poff of Floyd; sisters-in-law, Jessie Sweeney of Oakton and Minnie Sweeney of Floyd, and numerous nieces and nephews. GARST, John Allen, Jr., 38, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 11, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Wilma W. Garst; son, John Allen Garst, III; daughters, Betty Joanna Garst, Stephanie Ann Garst; stepdaughter, Kathy McBride; parents, John A. Sr. and Betty C. Garst; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Michael W. (Butch) Staples; nephew, Jason M. Staples; niece, Jamie M. Staples. GOODE, Mary Williamson, of Richmond, died Thursday, January 10, 1997, at Westminster-Canterbury, at the age of 92. She was the widow of B. Clifford Goode and the daughter of the late Maggie Prunty Williamson and Richard Silas Williamson of Martinsville. She served as a secretary in the state legislature, in the alumni office at the University of Richmond and at Home Beneficial. While at the University of Richmond, she was awarded honorary membership in ODK, the journalism fraternity. She was a very active member of River Road Church, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the former Rollingwood Garden Club. Mrs. Goode is survived by a sister, Charmaine Williamson of Martinsville; two daughters, Mary Goode Croft of Maitland, Fla. and Phebe Goode Holladay of Orange. She was preceded in death by a son, David Ross Goode. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Samuel Richard Young, Virginia Young Underswood, Marie Rebecca Young, James Porter Holladay, David Ross Holladay, Katherine Holladay Zampolin, Phebe Jean Goode Long; and six great-grandchildren, Caroline and Sydney Young, Jack and Sarah Zampolin and Hannah and William Holladay. Also surviving are six nieces and nephews, Margaret Goode Vicars, Congressman Virgil H. Goode, Jr., Betsy Goode Madden, Daniel Southerland, Lee Southerland and Virginia Williamson Parker. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at River Road Church, with Dr. James Slatten officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church, with a private committal afterwards at Riverside Cemetery. JONES, Thomas Edward, 71, of Route 2, Rustburg, died Friday, January 10, 1997, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Judy Thornhill Jones. Born in Roanoke on February 15, 1925, he was the son of the late Hunter Jones and Anne Bonds Jones. He was a retired County Forester with the Virginia Department of Forestry, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Rustburg Baptist Church. He is surv ived by several cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel by the Rev. Rick Cole. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. KEENEY, Joseph Stimmel, 74, of Rocky Mount and formerly of Virginia Beach, died Saturday, January 11, 1997. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of Virginia, having served in the position of Systems Engineer. He was a former Boy Scout leader in the Virginia Beach area, and was instrumental in organizing the Virginia Beach Amateur Golf Tournament, of which he served as chairman. Surviving are his wife, Frances Overfelt Keeney of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth K. (``Betty"") Blue of Rocky Mount, and Jacqueline K. and Gorman Morehead of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Jonathan Daniel Barnwell, Frances Katherine Morehead, Gorman Morehead III and Janine Gaye Baker, and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Lee Baker, Howard Dodd Baker, Kristen Marie Baker and Madelyn Gray Spruill. SINK, Sylvester Reed, Jr., 66, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 11, 1997, at his residence. Mr. Sink was preceded in death by his parents, Sylveste r R. Sr. and Margaret Pedigo Sink, and his granddaughter, Mary Katherine Yengst. He was a retired pharmacist. STALLARD, Laura Ellen Dickenson, 97, of 614 East Valley Dr., Bristol, Va., died Saturday, January 11, 1997 at her residence. She was a native of Washington County, Va., but had lived in Bristol for the past 28 years. She was a member of Kingsway Baptist Church, member of R.S.V.P. and a member of the Slater Senior Citizens. She was the widow of Lawrence Edward Stallard. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Glen (Mary Ellen) Brown of Bristol, Va.; one son, Karl M. Stallard of Roanoke; four granddaughters, Karen Tester and Tracey Stanley, both of Bristol, Va.; Sheryl McCormack of Vinton and Tonda Fugate of Roanoke; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Evelyn Hunter, of the home. THORNHILL, George K., Sr., 74, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, January 9, 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Myers Thornhill. Surviving are two sons, George K. Thornhill Jr. and Richard L. Thornhill of Roanoke; three daughters, Shirley Thornhill and Diane Greenway of Roanoke and Peggy T. Lawson of Rocky Mount; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Johnny Thornhill of Roanoke. TURNER, Susie Elizabeth Ruth Vaughan, of Blue Ridge, passed away Thursday, January 9, 1997, at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. She was born March 23, 1912, to the late William Reed Vaughan and Lula Foley Vaughan of Stuart in Patrick County and spent most of her life in Henry County. She was also preceded in death by fourteen brothers and sisters. She was the wife of Arnold J. Turner, who preceded her in death on May 23, 1986, and the mother of Arnold J. Turner Jr., who was killed in an automobile accident on December 9, 1952. She was the mother of Dorothy Turner Morrison of White Oak Estates in Blue Ridge, Va. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Marvin A. Morrison Sr.; granddaughter, Christi Moore-Morrison; grandson, Marvin Morrison Jr. and his wife, Linda; granddaughter, Deborah Morrison Moore; four great-grandchildren, Kim Moore, Brian Moore, Stephanie Morrison and Jennifer DeLio, all of Roanoke; a sister Kate Adkins of Roanoke; two brothers-in-law, Lowell Adkins of Roanoke and Randolph Millner of Mobile, Ala.; many nieces and nephews, and her loving Poodle, Sam. She retired from Tultex of Martinsville in 1982 and spent her years of retirement at her home in Collinsville until May, 1994, when she went to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Blue Ridge. A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 12, 1997, at 3 p.m., at Collins Funeral Chapel, Bassett, with burial at Roselawn Burial Park. The Rev. Bill Hungate will officiate.

WAGNER, George Willie, 83, of the Figsboro community, Martinsville, died Friday, January 10, 1997. Funeral 2 p.m. Monday, McKee Funeral Chapel.

WILLIAMS, Robert Willey (``Bob""), 70, of Celco Heights in Narrows, died Saturday morning, January 11, 1997, following a long illness. Born on August 6, 1926 in Pembroke, he was a son of the late Benton and Pearl Griner Williams. He served his country in the U. S. Army in both WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the Jesus Church at Clendennin. Surviving are one son, Stephen Williams of Amarillo, Texas; and one daughter, Linda W. Harder of Stillwater, Minnesota; two brothers, Rudolph Williams of Pearisburg and Douglas Williams of Phoenix, Arizona.; three sisters, Lucille W. Collins of Pembroke, Elizabeth W. Stafford of Narrows, and Joe Mae Marshall of Narrows; and two granddaughters. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 13, 1997, at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Eddie Kendall, his Pastor, officiating.
