MAROONS EDGE GENERALS 62-60

Senior Amy Athey, a former Cave Spring standout, scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds Saturday to lead Roanoke College to a 62-60 victory over Washington and Lee in Lexington.

The Maroons stayed unbeaten in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (4-0) and improved to 6-1 overall with the come-from-behind win.

Ashley McCallum, a senior who played at William Byrd, had 10 points, 13 rebounds and five assists for Roanoke, which shot just 30.3 percent (10-of-33) in the first 20 minutes and trailed 27-26 at the half.

Amber Hinkle had 14 points to lead four W&L players in double figures. Ansley Miller and Jessica Morton each scored 13 for the Generals (5-5, 3-4) and Chrissy Burghardt added 11.

Delaware Valley 90, Ferrum 80: Kristin Bucci and Jeanne Waznak each scored 21 points to lead five Aggies in double figures as Delaware Valley defeated the Panthers in the consolation game of the Women's 84 Lumber Hardware Classic in Frostburg, Md.

Waznak and Bucci scored 17 and 12 points, respectively, in the first half as Delaware Valley built a 13-point lead at the break.

Ferrum (5-4) went on a 9-0 run early in the second half to cut the Aggies lead to three. Delaware Valley came back to hit a clutch 3-point basket and never looked back in running its record to 7-4.

Melisa Buchanan led Ferrum with 23 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Radford 110, Winthrop 90: Kim Hairston (Bassett) scored 24 points to pace six Highlanders in double figures as Radford raced past the Eagles in a Big South game at the Dedmon Center.

The Highlanders (6-8, 2-0) and Winthrop combined to set a record for the most points (200) scored by two teams in the Dedmon Center.

Jennifer Grant had 16 points, Kim Cruise (Pulaski County) had 15 points and nine rebounds, and Rebecca McNeil (Christiansburg) added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Highlanders.

Winthrop (1-8, 0-1) got 16 points each from Anne Cox and Mandy Britt. Former Floyd County standout Leigh-Ann Pursifull had 13 points and six rebounds for the Eagles.

No. 13 Virginia 64, No. 11 North Carolina State 62: In Raleigh, N.C., Mimi McKinney drove the length of the floor for a layup with 3.5 seconds left, giving the Cavaliers their only lead of the game in a victory over the Wolfpack.

McKinney's layup with 23 seconds left - her first points - had tied the score at 62-62.

Virginia (11-3, 4-1 ACC) scored the game's final 11 points over the last 2:55 to extend its winning streak to 14 straight over the Wolfpack (11-5, 1-3), including eight straight in Raleigh.

The victory was the 450th for Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan in her 600th game.

Tora Suber led Virginia with 24 points and Monick Foote added 15.
