Tonight, for the first time, the city of Roanoke will hold a workshop, open to the public, to discuss ideas for the city's capital improvement program.
The meeting, intended to focus on large-scale projects to be undertaken through 2001, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Roanoke Civic Center exhibit hall. Free parking will be provided.
Briefings and discussions of current and proposed projects will include: school renovations, new traffic lights, Gainsboro Library improvements, the Mill Mountain Greenway and bridge, and sidewalk and storm drain construction.
"We just want you to come and share ideas on the needs we have in these types of areas," said the city's public information officer, Michelle Bono.
Also for the first time, community members will serve on a capital improvement project advisory committee. The representatives from business interests, neighborhoods and school PTAs who will serve on the committee will be introduced at the workshop, Bono said.
More information may be obtained by calling the city's budget administrator, Diane Akers, at 853-6801.
