ROANOKE WINS TUNEUP FOR ODAC SHOWDOWN

Kevin Sigafoes made all eight of his field-goal attempts in the first half to spark Roanoke College's 92-58 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Monday night at the Bast Center.

Sigafoes, a 6-foot-3 small forward, scored all of his season-high 19 points in the first half. He also grabbed a season-high eight rebounds.

``It doesn't happen very often, so I had to take advantage of it,'' the senior said after the Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. ``I was in the zone.''

Senior guard Jason Bishop led the Maroons with 22 points and had a season-high six rebounds.

Roanoke (9-1 overall, 4-0 conference) led 48-20 at halftime.

Eastern Mennonite (3-5, 1-2) got 19 points and nine rebounds from Matt Yoder.

With fellow conference contender Bridgewater coming to the Bast Center on Wednesday, Maroons coach Page Moir said he didn't mind playing in a blowout.

``It doesn't hurt us,'' he said. ``We're in a tough stretch of our schedule. It was good to get in the flow. This was a very positive night.''

In other games Monday night:

No. 1 Kansas 80, No. 8 Iowa State 67: Native Iowan Raef LaFrentz had 10 of his 16 points in the second half as the Jayhawks beat the Cyclones in a Big 12 Conference game in Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas (17-0, 4-0) had a 17-4 run to finish the first half and held off Iowa State (11-2, 2-1) throughout the second half. Dedric Willoughby, the Cyclones' leading scorer (18 points per game), did not play in the second half because of ankle and groin injuries.

No. 13 Duke 84, Campbell 59: Roshown McLeod scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and the Blue Devils held the Camels to one basket in the opening 11 minutes en route to a victory in Durham, N.C.

Duke (12-4) rebounded from losses to No.2 Wake Forest and No.3 Clemson by grabbing an 18-point halftime lead and cruising to victory as 11 players scored at least four points. Jim Fitzpatrick led Campbell (5-8) with 19 points.

No. 19 Boston College 81, Georgetown 74: Antonio Granger scored 19 points, and the Eagles extended their best Big East Conference start with a victory over the Hoyas in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

BC (11-2, 6-1) is off to its best start since 1984-85 and its best under coach Jim O'Brien, who is in his 11th year. The Eagles have won five consecutive conference games.

Victor Page had 19 points to lead Georgetown (10-5, 3-4), which has its worst Big East record ever after seven games.

James Madison 85, George Mason 80: Chatney Howard scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, also a career high, as the Dukes edged the Patriots in a Colonial Athletic Association game in Harrisonburg.

JMU (9-3, 3-1) led 48-39 at halftime and opened the second half with an 11-3 run to take a 59-42 lead with 16:49 left. George Mason (7-7, 1-4) went on a 10-0 run to close to 73-69 with 5:23 left, but Howard scored five consecutive points and the Dukes went 7-for-12 from the free-throw line in the final four minutes.

Nate Langley led the Patriots with 22 points.

Old Dominion 61, North Carolina-Wilmington 45: Odell Hodge, a former Laurel Park High School star, scored 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Monarchs (13-3, 4-0) past the Seahawks (6-10, 1-3) in a Colonial game in Norfolk.

Poor shooting kept UNC Wilmington from threatening. The Seahawks shot 27 percent from the floor to ODU's 40 percent.

Navy 74, William and Mary 63: Michael Heary scored 23 points, including seven in the final 90 seconds, to lead the Midshipmen (9-7) past the Tribe (4-9) in Annapolis, Md.

Hassan Booker added 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Middies. Randy Bracy led William and Mary with 18 points. Center Bobby Fitzgibbons hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14.

Liberty 65, Maryland-Baltimore County 52: Center Peter Aluma scored a season-high 25 points as the Flames (11-5, 1-1) handed the Retrievers (1-13, 0-4) their sixth consecutive loss, this one in a Big South Conference game in Catonsville, Md.

After scoring five points in the first half, Aluma had eight in the first 4:45 for Liberty (11-5, 1-1 Big South). Guard Alhamisi Simms led UMBC with 19 points.

Temple 75, Dayton 50: Marc Jackson scored 14 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, leading the Owls (7-4, 2-1) past the Flyers (7-6, 1-3) in an Atlantic 10 Conference game in Philadelphia.

Dayton did not have a scorer in double figures. The Flyers, playing their fifth game in 10 days, shot 26.7 percent (16 of 68).

Women

North Carolina-Greensboro 103, Radford 66: Four Spartans scored in double figures as UNCG routed the Highlanders in a Big South game in Greensboro, N.C.

The Spartans (7-7, 2-0) built on a 23-point halftime lead, going up by as many as 46 points behind Sam Ferguson's game-high 21 points. Jennifer Grant led Radford (6-8, 2-1) with 11 points and Rebecca McNeil (Christiansburg) had 10.

Roanoke 71, Bridgewater 68: Suzanne Moore (Blacksburg) scored 14 points and Ashley McCallum (William Byrd) added 12 points and 17 rebounds as the Maroons edged the visiting Eagles in a battle of ODAC leaders.

Amy Athey (Cave Spring) added 10 points and Carrie McConnell (Pulaski County) had nine points and eight assists for Roanoke (7-1, 6-0). Jennifer Young led Bridgewater (9-2, 6-1) with 22 points.
