MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR TECH STUDENT SET FOR THURSDAY

A nondenominational memorial service for Daniel J. Kelly, the Virginia Tech sophomore who died Saturday after being hit by a car on campus, will be held Thursday.

A university official said the service will be held at noon in the War Memorial Chapel on Tech's campus. The Rev. Jim Cowles of the campus Newman Community will lead the service.

Kelly was walking with a friend when they were both hit from behind on Southgate Drive near Lane Stadium. Kelly's friend escaped with minor injuries. The driver of the car, Evelyn N. Williams of Blacksburg, was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Kelly's funeral will be held Friday in Towson, Md.
