A Buckingham Correctional Center inmate suspected of stabbing the prison's warden the day after Christmas was indicted Tuesday on a charge of aggravated malicious wounding.
Dennis Keith Webb, 32, also was indicted by a grand jury on a felony charge of unauthorized possession of an instrument. That charge is made any time an inmate is caught with contraband.
Prison officials said Webb used a homemade knife called a shank to slash Warden Eddie L. Pearson, 49, during lunch in the prison's mess hall.
The attack sparked a melee among other inmates, who set fire to the prison's library and tried to assault other prison personnel.
Four inmates were wounded by a guard's semi-automatic gunfire when they scaled a fence and rushed the assistant warden and chief of security, officials said.
Pearson, who was cut from ear to lip, is recovering at home.
