AGEE, Abbie Thompson, 94, of Salem, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 1997. Arrangements by Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke.

AKERS, Emitte Gr aden, 93, of Northampton Convalescent Center, Hampton, and formerly of Pulaski, died Tuesday morning, January 14, 1997, in Hampton. Born May 7, 1903 in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Ida Blanche Walker Akers and Charles Henry Akers. Mr. Akers was preceded in death by his first wife, Josie Elizabeth Hawkins Akers, his second wife, Mary Sue Reynolds Stoots Akers; a daughter, Irene A. Rooks; and a stepson, Ralph Carlton Stoots Sr. He was the former owner and president of the Virginia Block Co., and a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Pulaski, where he served in the past on the Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees. He is survived by one stepdaughter, Mrs. Wayne ``Patsy'' Gray of Hampton; three sisters, Virginia A. Myers of Christiansburg, Tressie Cole of Blacksburg, and Bessie Tilley of Lanett, Ala.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the Appalachian Conference Cemetery, Dublin, with Rev. James W. Alley officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas M.. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

BAYS, Bobby Jackson, 57, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997. Funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville. Visitation Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

BENNETT, Woodrow Gentry, 82, of Fries, died Monday, January 13, 1997, in Blue Ridge Highland Nursing Home. Mr. Bennett was born in Grayson County on November 29, 1914 to Y. A. Bennett and Alice Mabe Bennett. Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, Edith F. Bennett, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Jack Fisher, Fredericksburg; a son a nd daughter-in-law, Ron and Sue Bennett, Woodlawn; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Stevens Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Tazz Reid officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. BOSWELL, Clifford W., (``Joe''), 83, of Columbia, S.C., died Monday, January 13, 1997, at the Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, S.C. ``Joe'' was a resident of Roanoke from 1945-1981. He owned and operated the newsstand in the State & City Office Building in downtown Roanoke from 1950-1968. He is survived by his wife, Martha; and his daughter, MaryEtta McCarthy, both of Columbia, S.C.; a son, Chuck, of Orangeburg, S.C.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service is being held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, at the Unitarian Fellowship of Columbia. BROADMAN, Scott R., 39, of Keen, N.H., formerly of Salem, Va., died Tuesday, January 7, 1997. He is survived by his girlfriend, Vicki Guthrie; her daughter, Alicia Lucas, and granddaughter, Megan Lucas; three sisters, Alicia Inglesias of Westfield, Mass., Lane LaPierre of East Thetford, Vt., and Vicki Lawry of Gardner, Maine; one brother, Gregory Bolduc of San Diego, Calif., and his father, Randall Boardman of Northfield, Vt. HORNE, C. Hubert, of Christiansburg, entered into the eternal life of perfect service with his Heavenly Father Sunday morning, January 12, 1997, from his residence. The funeral will be Wednesday, January 15, at noon from St. Paul United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Douglas W. Kanney and Dr. Donald Makin. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. INGRAM, Sally Elizabeth Stultz, 91, of 405 Minor St., Martinsville, died Monday, January 13, 1997, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buren Walton Ingram. She was born June 17, 1905 in Martinsville, daughter of the late Joseph Lafayette Stultz and Lula Belle Stultz. Mrs. Ingram was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where she had served in many capacities over the years. She joined the church April 15, 1915 when she was 10 years old. After attending James Madison University she began her 41-year teaching career in Henry County, but the majority of her teaching was the 3rd and 4th grades and as Librarian in Martinsville at the Joseph Martin School. She also attended Appalachian State University and graduated with a B.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education with certification in Library Science from Radford University. She is survived by a sister, Myrtle Stultz Wickline of Collinsville; four nieces, Sally Lou Wickline Canar of Richmond, Charlotte A. Stultz of Woodbridge, Jane S. Lewis of Fieldale, Ernestine S. Emerson of Raleigh, N.C.; six great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Martinsville, with Dr. Chevis Horne, Dr. Thomas McCann, and the Rev. Nancy S. McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends at McKee's Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and other times at the home on Minor St. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. JUNKIN, Alice Hampton, 89, formerly of 123 Belle Shoals Rd., died Monday, January 13, 1997, at Countryside Health Care Center, Easley, S.C., following an extended illness. Miss Junkin was born in Abingdon and was a graduate of Simmons College, Boston, Mass. Miss Junkin served as an officer in the Marine Corps during World War II and retired in 1969, after 27 years of federal civil service. Survivors include first cousins, Thomas D. Rutherfoord, Roanoke, and Rt. Rev. William deJarnette Rutherfoord of Fincastle. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Memorial Park, Black Mountain, N.C. by Very Rev. Father James K. Short officiating.

KINCER, Robert Dix, (``Bob''), 56, of Speedwell, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Dix Kincer, and is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-l aw, Charles E. ``Chuck'' Kincer, Michael S. ``Gus'' and Georgia Ann Kincer, all of Speedwell; four sisters, Alice Brown of Rural Retreat, Wanda Hall of Crockett, Donna Lethco and Norma Linkous, both of Wytheville; his father, Hubert ``Jelly'' Kincer of Wytheville. Funeral services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., in the United Lutheran Church conducted by Pastor Joe Shumate with the interment in the Mt. Ephriam United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., or at the home in Speedwell at any time. KINGERY, Elsie Mae, 98, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Monday evening, January 13, 1997. She was the widow of Calvin L. Kingery and a member of West End United Methodist Church. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, including Susan Brown of Barrington, Ill. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside, Evergreen Burial Park at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 1997 with the Rev. Bernard S. Via Jr. officiating. LOWMAN, Joseph William, 90, of 525 Pulaski St., Pulaski, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997, in Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital. Born January 17, 1906, in Pulaski, he was the son of the late John McGuffin Lowman and Josephine Eleanor Mann Lowman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Daily Lowman. He was retired from Radford Arsenal. Brother Lowman was a Mason for over 56 years, and was a past Master of Pythagoras Lodge, and at the time of his death a trustee of the Lodge. He has served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 40th Masonic District of Virginia. He has conducted Masonic schools throughout his tenure, and has conducted 73 Masonic funerals. Brother Lowman also held memberships in Blacksburg Commandery #32, Kazim Temple, Roanoke, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia, Grand Council of Anointed High Priests in Virginia. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Paul Childress, Warrenton; one sister, Elda Lowman Straightiff, Front Royal; two grandsons, Mark Childress and Joe Childress and his wife, Sherry; one great-granddaughter, Haylee Childress, all of Roanoke; also several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Bethune officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Masonic burial services will be conducted at the grave by Pythagoras Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Phthagoras Lodge of Masons, Pulaski. OWENS, Margie Copeland, 68, of Henry, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997, at her home. She was bo rn April 24, 1928, in Eckman, W.Va., a daughter of the late Dodge and Eva Copeland. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hudson. Mrs. Owens was a member of Providence Baptist Church. RAMSEY, Rev. Raymond Wesley, 65, of B edford, passed away Monday, January 13, 1997, in the Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. He was born September 20, 1931 in McClure, a son of Douglas W. Ramsey of Clinchco, and the late Sarah Stout Ramsey. He was a retired employee of the City of Roanoke, was a veteran of World War II, was ordained a minister by the Freewill Baptist Church, and was chaplain of the Sons of the Confederacy. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Eunice Bauswell Ramsey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Lynwood Lipscomb, Bedford, Debra and Benny Tuck, Moneta; a sister, Fern Ramsey, Clinchco; six brothers, Elmer Ramsey, Henry Ramsey, both of Clinchco, Leonard Ramsey, New Jersey, Sammy Ramsey, Verona, Ky., Herman Ramsey, Roseville, Mich., Bobby Ramsey, New Mexico; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 16, 1997, at 2 p.m. from the Radford Baptist Church, Moneta, by the Rev. Ray Lyons and Rev. Vernon DeLong. RUTHERFORD, Dennis Ray, 59, of Volney, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 1997, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. He was born on February 16, 1937, at Volney, to Robert L. and Cora Alma Sells Rutherford of the home. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kate and Carroll Moore of Salem, and Sue and Dave Winters of Lexington, Ky.; a brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Joanna Rutherford of Independence; a niece and spouse, Sherry and Kenny Blackburn of Rugby, and two special friends, June Barnes and Phyllis Farmer. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 16, 1997, at 11 a.m., in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, with interment in Little Wilson Cemetery, Volney. The Rev. ST.CLAIR, Thelma Lee, 73, of Pearisburg, died Monday, January 13, 1997, at her home. She was born February 20, 1923 at Pearisburg, the daughter of the late William Arles Pyles and Liza Jane Gautier Pyles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Guy St.Clair. She is survived by three sons, Thomas Pyles, Pearisburg, Larry St.Clair, Pearisburg, Donald St.Clair, Narrows; four daughters, Mrs. Wanda Williams, Trigg, Mrs. Shirley Goad, Pearisburg, Mrs. Brenda Lowery, Narrows, Mrs. Mary McManama, Narrows; four brothers, Raymond A. Pyles, Sidney W. Pyles, Jimmy J. Pyles, all of Pearisburg, Robert H. Pyles, Goldbond; one sister, Mrs. Maudie May Johnson, Pulaski; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
