MUSHROOMS KILL WINEMAKER

Sam Sebastiani Jr., a member of the famed Sebastiani wine family, has died after eating poisonous wild mushrooms, his family said Wednesday.

Sebastiani, 32, died Tuesday night, nine days after he ate wild mushrooms while on an outing with friends near his home in Santa Rosa.

He was one of three mushroom poisoning victims facing possible liver transplants, but the operation was ruled out because of his medical condition, the family's statement said.

Sebastiani was the son of Sonoma Valley vintner Sam Sebastiani Sr. and Barbara Leedom. His family continues to run the Sebastiani Vineyards, one of California's top producers of premium wine.
