AGEE, Abbie Thompson, 94, of Salem, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997 at Lewis-Gale Hospital. Surviving are seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Beulah and Enzo Wilson, Lucille and Buck Sink, all of Roanoke, Doris and Alvin Conner, Mary and John DeWeese, all of Salem, Vannie Sue and Edgar Hale, Copper Hill, Glovia and Jess Bolen, Vinton, Verna Hartman, Catawba; one son and daughter-in-law, Kainey and Ann Agee, South Dayton, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; 41 g reat-grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren. Funeral Friday at 12 noon at Wood Funeral Home, Floyd, with Elder W. T. Conner officiating. Interment in Salem Church Cemetery, Copper Hill. COX, Sherman Wakco, 19, of Star Route, Radford, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 1997 at his home. He was a 1996 graduate of Floyd County High School. Survivors include his parents, Waitman and Patricia Cox, Radford; sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Stephen Duncan, Radford; grandparents, Gracie and John Duncan, Radford. EDWARDS, Mary Sandidge, 92, of Roanoke, formerly of Sandy Level, died Wednesday, January 15, 1997, at Friendship Manor. Born September 19, 1904 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Sandidge and Margaret Odgen Sandidge. She was married to the late Tommie C. Edwards. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Penhook United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Holeman of Roxboro, N.C., and Ethel Blair of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 1997, at Penhook United Methodist Church by Rev. Betty D. Marshall, Rev. Olander English and Rev. Eugene Burress. Interment will follow in the Liberty Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home. JOHNSON, Sybil Baldwin, 81, of Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 1997 in Radford Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Basil P. Johnson ``Spike"", and one granddaughter, Cindy Johnson Rice. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Vernon McDowell, Christiansburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Gayle Johnson, Acton, Mass., Jere and Jo Johnson, Christiansburg; one brother and sister-in-law, H. Triever and Annie Baldwin, Fishersville, Va.; one sister-in-law, Helen M. Johnson, Huntington, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Kevin McDowell, Brian Johnson, Sheri Johnson, Ronda Roderick and husband, Mark; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Nicole and Ryan, Roderick, Amber Johnson; special friends, Louise Kirby, Huntington, W.Va., Beck Gutshall, Christiansburg; several nieces and nephews. KATZ, Harry, 99, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, January 15, 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie F. Katz and was retired former owner of Katz Food Company. Mr. Katz was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Gloria K. Schwartz, Orlando, Fla.; two granddaughters, Ms. Deanne VanKrevelen, Mrs. Marlene (Barry) Deutsch, all of Bolder, Colorado; a niece, Mrs. Cyrile (Joe) Brumberg, Roanoke; also several other nieces and nephews. LAWSON, Sara Dowdy, 63, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 1997. Born in Christiansburg, she is survived by a daughter, Donna Blevins of Vinton; and a son, Tony L. Smith of Roanoke; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews. Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frankie and Robert St. Clair of Ironto, and Shelby and Herman Hill of Salem; a brother and sister-in-law, William S. and Doris Dowdy, Salem. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 17, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. LIPSCOMB, Henry Edward, 94, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 1997. He was born in Bedford County to the late Henry and Eliza Williams Lipscomb. During the days when Norfolk & Western had passenger service in Roanoke, Henry served as a waiter on the dining car until he retired. He was preceded in death by his wife, Addie May Lipscomb. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Lottie and George L. Murphy of Vinton; two brothers, Septelious Lipscomb of Roanoke, and Lenwood Lipscomb of Dallas, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Dr. Edward T. Burton will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services at the funeral home. Friends may also call Hamlar-Curtis on Friday for viewing.

OWENS, Margie Copeland, 68, of Henry, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997, at her home. She was born April 24, 1928, in Eckman, W.Va., a daughter of the late Dodge and Eva Copeland. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hudson. Mrs. Owens was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Pat Owens; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Woodrow Turner, Keystone, W.Va.; three nieces and their husbands, Rita and Michael Hunt, Rocky Mount, Sharon and Danny Murphy, Bassett, Mitzi and David Belcher, Bluefield, W.Va.; several great-nephews; her uncles and aunt, Bill and Pearlie Coleman, Martinsville, Melvin Coleman, Rocky Mount; special friends, Alice Martin, Henry, Ruby Hunt, Rocky Mount. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Steve Tilley and the Rev. Lloyd Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park. PEARMAN, Pauline Barnes, 79, of Ridgeway, died Tuesday evening, January 14, 1997, at Morehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, N.C. She was born in Rockingham County, N.C., and was a member of El Bethel Presbyterian Church. She was the retired owner/operator of Polly's Beauty Shop, Ridgeway. Survivors are her husband, William Walter Pearman Sr. of the home; sons, William W. ``Bill'' Pearman Jr., Hillsboro, Samuel Allen ``Pete'' Pearman Sr., Stanleytown; brother, Murray A. Barnes Sr., Roanoke; sister, Virginia B. Wood, Martinsville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at El Bethel Presbyterian Church with burial in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. TAYLOR, Eugene Thomas, (``Gene''), 86, of 115 Oak Lane, Pulaski, and formerly of the Hiwassee Community, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 1997, at his home. He was born July 26, 1910 in Hiwassee, son of the late Graham Taylor and Inez Willis Taylor Bowles. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Ellen Kemp Taylor; one sister, Nellie Nunn; and two brothers, Obal Taylor and Otha Lee Taylor; and a son-in-law, Robert James. He was a lifetime member of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was a retired superintendent with the former American Pigment Plant and Hercules Paint Company of Hiwassee. He is survived by one daughter, Hattie James, Dublin; one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley E. Taylor and Bonnie T. Taylor, Hiwassee; four grandchildren, William E. Taylor, Rockwell, N.C., Gail T. Moliver, Rumson, N.J., Thomas Marshall, Pulaski, and Sherry Marshall Hurst, Winston-Salem, N.C.; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ola Mae Marshall, Hiwassee; one brother, E. P. Taylor, Indian Wells, Calif.; one half sister, Marie Marshall, Stow, Ohio; caretaker, Barbara Shively, Pulaski. VIARS, Rosieleen Phillips, (``Roy''), went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 14, 1997. She was born in Floyd on October 12, 1920 to Truman and Cassie Phillips. Her early years were spent in Montgomery County, and later in the state of Washington. She returned to Dublin in 1988. She was preceded in death by two sisters. She is survived by her husband, Roy (Bud) Viars of Dublin; two sons, Ray Reed of Tacoma, Wash., and Gary Styron of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Willa Dean Kirtner of Pilot, Peggy Duncan of Wytheville, and Barbara Ann Phillips; three brothers, Joe and Tommy Phillips, and Steve Walters; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 17, 1997, at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The Rev. Homer D. Sawyer will conduct the services. WRAY, Nelia Louise, 79, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Edward Wray. She is survived by her son, Rodney E. Wray; daughters, Nona Wray Hatcher, Oleen Wray Hatcher; brothers, Howard McGhee, Earl Bush Jr. and Billy Bush; sisters, Frances Victorene, Edith Hodges, Gladys St.Clair; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great children.
