FLOYD COUNTY STAYS UNBEATEN WITH WIN

Derek Saunders scored 24 points to lead Floyd County, the state's top-ranked Group A team, to a 64-50 victory over Carroll County on Wednesday night in a non-district game in Floyd.

Travis Cantrell had 14 points and eight assists for unbeaten Floyd County, which led 29-13 before Carroll County closed the first half with a 10-0 run to make it interesting. Jason Dalton added 12 points.

Scott Goins scored 11 points and Travis Harvey had 10 for the Cavaliers.

Christiansburg 61, Giles 54: The Blue Demons trailed 10-2 early, but a 26-8 run for the rest of the half propelled them past the Spartans in a non-district game in Christiansburg.

Eric Lucas made three 3-pointers and scored 18 points for the Demons (7-3). Ben Brown led Giles (7-5) with 20 points.

Grayson County 86, Rural Retreat 52: Wes Self had 19 points to lead five scorers in double figures as the Highlanders upended the Indians in Rural Retreat.

Wayne Terry scored 16 points and Jason Vipperman added 10 for the Indians (1-6).

Carlisle 72, Holy Cross 63: Chad Martin hit seven free throws during a closing 10-0 run as the Chiefs won a Virginia Independent Conference game in Martinsville.

Marty Stanley led Carlisle (4-4, 3-3) with 24 points.
