APPLAUSE

The Roanoke Bar Association presented a check for $500 to Wayne Harris, superintendent of Roanoke schools, at its December meeting. The money will purchase four CD-ROM computer programs to help high school students prepare for the Scholastic Assessment Test.

The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors filled 440 stockings this year for the Salvation Army which distributes over 600 stockings to needy children in the Roanoke area.

The RVAR has been providing stockings to the Salvation Army for more than 25 years, averaging 450 stockings per year.

WYYD (107.9 FM) and the Kroger Food and Drug Stores have collected 36.1 tons of canned and non-perishable food to benefit the annual "Raise-A-Ton" food drive. The donated food is distributed to area Salvation Army offices.
