State police program needs volunteers
The Virginia State Police Volunteer Service Program is looking for volunteers to perform a variety of duties including clerical support, photography and vehicle maintenance.
Hours are flexible but are usually during normal business hours. A background check is required. Interested people should contact Olivia MacDonald at (804)-674-2229.
County departments offer winter courses
Roanoke County Parks and Recreation is holding registration through Friday for winter classes and programs. Classes for children and adults will begin Jan. 20. For more information, call 387-6086.

MDA Golf Card on sale in Roanoke
The 1997 CITGO MDA Golf Card is available for a $25 donation at Dr. Golf locations and the Muscular Dystrophy Association office on Starkey Road.
The card entitles golfers to one round of golf at 19 golf courses in Southwest Virginia, not including cart rental. Participating Roanoke Valley golf courses include Countryside Golf Course, Hanging Rock Country Club, Hunting Hills Country Club and Ole Monterey Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit local people living with neuromuscular diseases. For more information, call 772-3237.
DMV mobile center to make two stops
The Department of Motor Vehicles Mobile Customer Service Center will visit New Castle on Tuesday and March 14 to offer driver licensing and vehicle services to the public. The MCSC will be stationed at the Jefferson National Forest New Castle Ranger District on Virginia 615. Each visit will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The MCSC will be at the Salem Farmers Market on Jan. 23 and March 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 561-7400 or 561-7409.
