LIBERTY TAKES APPOMATTOX

Raymond Arrington hit four 3-pointers in the first half to keep Liberty in front, and he finished with 21 points and five 3s as the Minutemen beat Appomattox County 68-51 on Thursday night in a Seminole District game in Appomattox.

Rodney Morris had 16 points and Rick Wright added 10 for Liberty, which hit seven of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the outcome.

Lindsay Fleshman led the Raiders with 21 points.

Oak Hill Academy 112, Walter French Academy (Mich.) 46: Kevin Lyde scored 25 points and grabbed a school-record 26 rebounds as the Warriors dominated the visitors from Lansing, Mich., in a game in Mouth of Wilson.

Lyde, a junior, broke the rebounding record set by Brian Shorter, who went on to play at Pitt and in the NBA. Atilla Cosby, William Avery and Dee Tolliver each scored 19 points for Oak Hill (13-2). Jermaine Medley added 17 for the 14th-ranked team in the nation in the latest USA Today poll.

The Warriors hit 15 of 22 3-point attempts, including six 3s by Tolliver.

Joe Gonzalez led Walter French with 19 points.
