COLD WEATHER TIPS

Stock an emergency supply of water and non-perishable foods.

Make sure you've got a flashlight, battery-powered radio and extra batteries on hand.

Prevent hypothermia - dress warmly, both during the day and while sleeping. Wear several layers of lighter weight clothing. Always wear a hat when going outside.

If caught on the road during extremely cold weather, stay in the car unless you can see a shelter or telephone close by. Turn on car engine for brief periods and open window slightly for ventilation.

Check on elderly neighbors and relatives. The elderly are especially susceptible to hypothermia, even inside their homes.

When possible, bring pets inside or make sure they have suitable shelter. Turn dog houses away from the wind.

Protect your pipes from freezing by letting each faucet drip a little.

Don't operate space heaters in areas without ventilation.
