Magna Vista point guard Travis Preston picked a great time to hit his only bucket of the Warriors' Piedmont District game against Martinsville on Friday night.
Leander Preston hit a two-point field goal with six seconds remaining to put the Bulldogs (6-6 overall, 2-1 district) up by two, but Travis Preston responded with a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer as Magna Vista (9-3, 3-0) won the game and the battle of Prestons 54-53.
Jeroy Dillard came off the bench to spark the comeback victory by scoring 12 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Leander Preston led Martinsville with 19 points.
Bassett 75, Patrick County 70, OT: The Bengals tied the score on a half-court shot at the buzzer, then pulled away from the Cougars in overtime for a Piedmont District victory in Bassett
Corey Reynolds hit a pair of free-throws with one second remaining in regulation to give Patrick County a 63-60 lead. The Bengals inbounded the ball to Brandon Woods at mid-court, where Woods caught the ball, turned and shot in one motion, hitting nothing but net.
Corie Manns and Chauncey Norman combined for nine of Bassett's 12 overtime points as the Bengals (5-8, 2-1) took control in the extra period.
Manns led Bassett with 20 points. Reynolds led all scorers with 24 for the Cougars (6-6, 1-2).
Parry McCluer 42, Bath County 39: Mike Clark followed up a missed free throw by hitting a shot with 13 seconds remaining as the Fighting Blues fought off the Chargers to remain unbeaten in a Pioneer District battle in Hot Springs.
Parry McCluer (12-0, 2-0), ranked second in Group A, appeared to be in command with a 34-24 lead late in the third quarter. Bath County battled back to tie the score at 39 on a layup by Eric Neilsen with 38 seconds to play.
After Clark's stick-back gave the Fighting Blues a 41-39 lead, David Downs, who led Parry McCluer with 13 points, finished the Chargers by hitting a free throw with four seconds remaining.
Chris Wright led Bath County (5-4, 0-1) with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Liberty 77, Jefferson Forest 68: Raymond Arrington scored 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Minutemen (12-1, 6-0) outlasted the Cavaliers (7-7, 3-2) in a Seminole District matchup in Bedford.
Liberty led 22-12 after the first quarter, which would prove enough, but Jefferson Forest stuck with the Minutemen the rest of the way. Rodney Morris added 17 points and 10 rebounds and Robert Carson had 17 points for Liberty.
Laurel Park 51, Fieldale-Collinsville 50: Jeff Slade hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Lancers came from behind to beat the Cavaliers in a Piedmont District game in Martinsville.
Laurel Park (9-3, 1-2), which trailed by 11 with 5:20 to play, tied the score at 48 on a basket by Tony Carter with 17 seconds remaining. Fieldale-Collinsville regained the lead when Joey Taylor followed a missed free throw with three seconds left.
Following a timeout, Slade, who led all scorers with 26 points, took the inbounds pass and launched the game-winner just before time expired.
Jamin Foster led the Cavaliers (4-9, 0-3) with 11 points.
William Byrd 68, Alleghany 64: Kevin Stump scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Terriers past the Mountaineers in a Blue Ridge District contest on William Byrd's floor.
Jason Bailey added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Terriers (8-4, 5-1).
Travis Davis and Ramey Pendleton led the Mountaineers (3-8, 1-5) with 19 and 15 points, respectively.
Carroll County 64, Tazewell 61: Jody Edwards hit five of six free throws to help the Cavaliers snap a 57-57 tie and win the Southwest District matchup in Hillsville.
Josh Saunders sank a 3-pointer with two seconds left for the Bulldogs, was fouled, and made the free throw to pull Tazewell to 64-61. The Bulldogs forced a turnover and had a chance to tie the score, but missed a 3-pointer.
Will Horton scored 16 points to pace Tazewell (6-5, 1-2).
Carroll County (5-8, 2-0) got 17 points from Scott Goins. Edwards finished with 12.
Washington College (Tenn.) Academy 81, Carlisle 68: The visitors from Limestone, Tenn., pulled away in the final two minutes to defeat the Chiefs in a non-district game in Martinsville. Carlisle (4-5) trailed 68-64 with two minutes left, but was outscored 13-4 the rest of the way by WCA (13-0).
Chad Martin led the Chiefs with 28 points, 15 coming on 3-point goals.
