An Amtrak train hit a tractor-trailer Saturday as the rig was backing up over a railroad crossing, state police said.
Amtrak officials said 14 passengers and one crew member were injured, mostly with bumps and bruises. They were transported to hospitals in Culpeper and Fauquier County, state police said.
The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed, but his rig was destroyed, state police said.
The incident happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. at a private grade crossing on Virginia 615, state police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said. Officials said 205 passengers were on the Crescent, which was traveling from New Orleans to New York.
