ROANOKE SUFFERS its third straight setback.
Quality beat quantity Saturday night at the Dorton Arena.
Despite being pelted by shots from the Roanoke Express, the Raleigh IceCaps pulled out a 4-1 East Coast Hockey League victory.
It was Roanoke's first road loss in its past seven road games, but it was the team's third straight loss overall.
Roanoke (21-14-3) got behind 1-0 at the 4:43 mark of the first period when Raleigh's Darren Colbourne scored unassisted. That goal held up until the third period. The Express outshot the IceCaps 27-18 through the first two periods.
Roanoke tied the score at the 3:24 mark of the third when Jeff Loder his 14th goal of the season scored off a pretty assist from Michael Smith. Loder was playing his first game for the Express since before Christmas, when he was promoted to the IHL's Manitoba Moose.
Raleigh (16-21-3) went back ahead 2-1 at the 10:15 mark of the third when Jeff Reid converted a great pass from Kris Miller. The Ice Caps scored two empty net goals to round out the scoring.
Roanoke is off until Friday, Jan.24, when it meets the IceCaps at the Roanoke Civic Center.
