PH BOYS FINISH FIRST IN TRACK

The Patrick Henry boys' track team finished first at the Keydet Invitational indoor meet Saturday in Lexington.

The Patriots topped 38 teams with 66 points.

James Hickenbotham won the 55-meter dash in 6.3 seconds; Louis Booker was first in the 500-meter run in 1 minute, 8.1 seconds, and also won the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, 3 1/2 inches; and Mike Stevens won shot put with a heave of 45 feet, 6 inches.

William Fleming placed second with 63 points.

Lee Suggs won the 300-meter dash in 37.3 seconds; the Colonels won the 800- and 1600-meter relays; Brent Elliott was second in the 500-meter run; Shakier Majied was second in the shot put; and Darryl McCoy took third in the long jump.

* Virginia Tech's new Mondo indoor track at the Rector Field House has proven to be a fast surface.

Tech set a school record in the women's distance medley at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday night. The Hokies women's team came back Saturday to break another school record and post several top three finishes.

Rashida Dodson, Jennifer Cook, Danya Gordon and Katie Ollendick set a school record in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:54.80.

Nicole Kimbrough helped Virginia claim three of the top four finishes in the long jump with a first-place leap of 19 feet, 51/2 inches.
