YATES, CAVALIERS EXORCISE DEMONS IN BLUE RIDGE

Michael Yates made a 3-point goal with 1:30 remaining in the game Saturday to give Lord Botetourt to a 54-51 Blue Ridge District victory in Christiansburg.

Yates sealed the win by shooting 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Yates finished with 27 points, 12 of them on 3-pointers, for the visiting Cavaliers. Sean Osborne added 14 points.

Michael Kazee paced the Blue Demons (7-4, 2-3) with 18 points, while Eric Lucas scored 12 and Scott Baker chipped in 11.

Glenvar 67, Shawsville 54: Josh Williamson scored 21 points to lead the Highlanders over the Shawnees in a non-district game in Shawsville.

Glenvar jumped out to an early lead and went into the locker room with a 39-27 advantage at the half.

The game featured a combined total of 80 free throws, with Shawsville scoring 29 of its points from the charity stripe, while Glenvar was 22-of-37 from the line.

Donnie Wimmer added 16 points for the Highlanders, and Chris Evans added 12. Linden Ryan led the Shawnees with 12 points.

William Byrd 46, Blacksburg 38: Mayo Wilson hit five of seven free throws in the final quarter as the Terriers held off the Indians in a Blue Ridge District game in Blacksburg.

Josh Wheeler and Kevin Stump each scored 12 points for William Byrd (9-4).

Philip Klaus paced the Indians (6-6, 3-3 district) with 13 points.

Girls

Cave Spring 70, Albemarle 41: Amber Neil's 16 points paced the Knights in a non-conference matchup at Albemarle.

Lisa Bryan and Lindsay Cannon grabbed eight rebounds apiece for Cave Spring (12-1), and Mandy Warsaw dished out five assists to go with her six points as all the Knights scored.

Jess Evers scored 15 points for the Patriots (5-9) and Angel Johnson added 13.

North Cross 32, Chatham Hall 31: Michele Hamilton scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Raiders used defense to protect their lead down the stretch and win in Chatham.

Ann Ballenger added eight points and five rebounds for North Cross (5-4). Chatham fell to 3-3. NOTE: Please see microfilm for scores.
