WILSON, TERRIERS STOP INDIANS IN BLUE RIDGE

Mayo Wilson hit 5-of-7 free throws in the final quarter as William Byrd turned back Blacksburg 46-38 in a Blue Ridge District game Saturday in Blacksburg.

Josh Wheeler and Kevin Stump each scored 12 points for the Terriers (9-4).

Philip Klaus paced the Indians (6-6, 3-3 district) with 13 points.

Floyd County 94, Auburn 64: Adam Harris and Jason Dalton each scored 10 points in the opening quarter as the Buffaloes skated to an early lead and blew out the Eagles in a Three Rivers District matchup in Floyd.

Floyd County (13-3, 3-0) led 54-28 at halftime and never looked back. Travis Cantrell led the Buffaloes with 20 points and eight rebounds, Harris finished with 17 points, Dalton chipped in 12, Derek Saunders added 11 and T.J. Holfield scored 10.

Adam Loveday paced Auburn with 18 points.

Lord Botetourt 54, Christiansburg 51: Michael Yates made a 3-pointer with 1:30 remaining in the game to give the Cavaliers the lead at 48-46 and he sealed the win by shooting 4-of-4 from the free throw line as Lord Botetourt nipped the Demons.

Yates finished with 27 points, 12 of them on 3-pointers, for visiting Lord Botetourt in the Blue Ridge District game. Sean Osborne added 14 points.

Michael Kazee paced Christiansburg (7-4, 2-3) with 18 points, while Eric Lucas scored 12 and Scott Baker chipped in 11.

Pulaski County 45, Amherst County 37: Dorian Hendricks paced the Cougars with a 20-point, eight-rebound effort and Pulaski County went on to defeat the homestanding Lancers.

Hendricks, a sophomore, went seven of nine from the floor and made 6-of-7 free throws as the Cougars (8-3) led the entire game.

Ron Branch added 11 points for the Cougars, while DeMarco Taylor had 11 for Amherst County.

Covington Boys' Home 77, Mount Carmel 69: In Luray, Mike White scored 24 points to pace four players in double figures as Covington Boys' Home held off Mount Carmel.

Chris Hampton chipped in 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Covington (6-5).

White scored 12 of his points in the third quarter as Covington took a 53-52 lead heading into the fourth quarter and extended its lead to as many as 12.

White also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists.

Freddy Portillo added 12 points and seven assists for Covington, while Marco Mejia added 10 points.

Daniel Haywood paced Mount Carmel (5-6) with 27 points, Nick McQuillan added 21, Jared DeMeritt 11 and Noah Good 10.

Ballard Christian 68, Gateway Christian 58: Jonathan Spencer scored 26 points and David Spencer 21 to lead the Eagles over the Crusaders in Blacksburg.

Ballard, which saw a 14-point halftime lead whittled to 48-45 at the end of the third period, pulled away at the free-throw line in the final eight minutes. Four Gateway starters fouled out in the fourth period as Ballard hit 24 of 34 free-throw attempts in the game.

Brad Duncan scored 17 points for Ballard, while Chris Kirtner added 13 and Andrew Smith 10. NOTE: Please see microfilm for scores.
