Albert-Humphries

Lynez Albert and Lance Humphries are engaged and planning to be married on June 28, 1997 in Roanoke. She is a daughter of Mrs. Patricia Spicer Brown of Roanoke. She was graduated from William Byrd High School and Virginia Tech, and is employed by Roanoke County Schools. He is a son of Wayne and Cynthia Humphries of Clifton Forge. He was graduated from Alleghany High School and Virginia Tech, and is employed by ETS, Inc.

Cash-Hodges

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin G. Cash of Roanoke are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Pennie Michele, to Mr. Samuel H. Hodges, Jr. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Hodges, Sr. of Roanoke, VA.

Pennie is a graduate of East Tennessee State University. Samuel is a graduate of Virginia Tech.

A June wedding is planned.

Cavett-Baldwin

Dr. and Mrs. Clinton Cavett announce with pleasure the engagement of their daughter, Lucy Moore, to Alan Christopher Baldwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Baldwin.

Lucy is a 1991 graduate of Trinity Preparatory School in Orlando, Fla. In 1995 she received a bachelor of science degree in biology from Washington and Lee University. She is currently employed by the Virginia Baptist Children's Home and Family Services.

Chris is a 1987 graduate of Cave Spring High School. In 1992 he received a bachelor of science degree in political science and social science from James Madison University. He currently teaches history at William Byrd High School.

The couple will be married April 5, 1997 in Lee Chapel at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia.

Cook-Donovan

Jennifer Marie Cook and Joseph Warren Donovan are pleased to announce their engagement. She is a daug hter of Ellen Hatcher and Dennis Cook of Roanoke. She is a 1995 graduate of Cave Spring High School. He is a son of Steve and Judy Donovan of Blue Ridge. He is a 1994 graduate of William Byrd High School. Both currently attend Old Dominion University and are seasonal employees of Pet Food Super Store in Roanoke. The wedding will take place in the summer of 1999.

Esparza-Conner

Linda M. Esparza is pleased to announce the engagement of her daughter, Tammy Leigh Esparza, to Darin Thomas Conner. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Jack Conner. An April wedding is planned.

Fifer-Sweet

Sammie Rae Fifer and Christopher Wayne Sweet are engaged and planning to be married on June 14, 1997 in Bonsack. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse W. Fif er Sr. of Hardy. She graduated from Staunton River High School, and is the owner of Unsung Heroes. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Sweet of Roanoke. He graduated from William Fleming High School and is employed by Cooper Industries.

Garard-Hopkin

Hannah R. Garard and William Wade Hopkin are engaged and planning to be married in June 1997 in Christiansburg, Va. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David R. Garard, Christiansburg, Va. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hopkin, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Gilmore-Greene

Mr. and Mrs. James K. Gilmore Jr. are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Rebecca Sue to Neil Loring Greene, son of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Greene of Roanoke. An October wedding is planned.

Grisso-Wright

Janet Marie Grisso and Phillip N. Wright are engaged and planning to be married May 24, 1997 in Boones Mill, Va. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.I. Grisso. She graduated from Glenvar High School and Community Hospital School of Professional Nursing, and is employed by Lewis-Gale Hospital as a Registered Nurse in Surgery. He is the son of the late Carlos E. and Pearl B. Wright of Boones Mill, Va. He graduated from Franklin County High School and Virginia Western Community College. He has been employed by The United States Postal Service for 20 years.

Hawks-Wright

Barbara Lineberry-Hawks and Mark R. Wright are engaged and planning to be married August 1997 in Roanoke. She is the daughter of Bernard D. Lineberry of Huntington, W. Va. and Rubye P. Lineberry of Tacoma, Washington. He is the son of Richard and Virginia Wright of Roanoke and a graduate of Northside High School Both are employed by The Kroger Co.

Hopkins-Martin

Mary Marshall Hopkins and Jeff Martin are engaged and planning to be married on May 10, 1997 in Richmond, VA. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Hopkins of Roanoke. She graduated from Patrick Henry H.S. and James Madison University and is employed by Circuit City.

He is the son of Mrs. Maxine Martin and the late Michael Martin of Binghamton, NY. He graduated from Binghamton Central H.S. He received his B.S. from James Madison University and his M.B.A. from VA Commonwealth University and is employed by the State of Virginia, Dept. of Business Assistance.

Johnston-Whorley

Mr. and Mrs. James M. Johnston of Catawba are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Lisa Jean Johnston to James Paul Whorley III. He is the son of Mrs. Juanita R. Whorley of Botetourt and the late James Paul Whorley, Jr. A June wedding is planned.

Loving-Creasy

Mr. and Mrs. Louise and Donnie Loving of Shawsville, Virginia are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Dawn Michelle Loving, to Anthony Zack Creasy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gail and Russell Creasy, also of Shawsville, Virginia.

Dawn is a graduate of Shawsville High School and is now attending Radford University. Anthony is also a graduate of Shawsville High School. The couple is planning a summer wedding.

McDaniel-Somers

Dana Lynn McDaniel and Jonathan Keith Somers are engaged a nd planning to be married on June 14, 1997 in Roanoke. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Preston C. McDaniel of Troutville. She graduated from Lord Botetourt High School and Bridgewater College. She is employed by Roanoke Valley Christian Schools.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Somers of Fincastle. He graduated from Roanoke Valley Christian Schools and Liberty University and is employed by Sonshine Christian Educational Ministries, Inc.

Powell-Bateman

Laura Cecel ia Powell and George O. Bateman 3rd (Trey) are pleased to announce their engagement.

Laura is the daughter of Dr. Norris L. Powell and Mrs. Cecelia Powell of Blacksburg, Virginia. She attended Blacksburg High School, Radford University and Virginia Tech. She is employed by Revco Drug Stores.

Trey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George O. Bateman Jr. of Salem, Virginia. He attended Salem High School and Virginia Western Community College. He is employed by Anderson News Company.

A May 3rd wedding in Blacksburg, Virginia is being planned.

Reid-O'Brien

Mr. and Mrs. Donald C. Reid of Salem, Virginia are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Dena Caroline, to Major Dennis Andrew O'Brien, son of Mary R. O'Brien of Bethesda, Maryland, and the late Colonel James K. O'Brien.

Miss Reid, a 1991 graduate of James Madison University, is Director of the Annual Fund at Hollins College.

Major O'Brien is a 1982 graduate of The United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and received masters degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School and the Naval War College. He is currently assigned as the Assistant Commandant of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

An April wedding is planned at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church.

Rice-Renaud

Dr. and Mrs. James Davies Rice of Roanoke are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Catherine Nicol to Peter Reed Renaud, son of Mrs. Patricia Reed Renaud of Bellingham, Washington and Mr. Andrew Francis Renaud, also of Bellingham.

Ms. Rice is a graduate of North Cross School and the College of William and Mary. She works as a promotions manager for Coca Cola USA in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Renaud is a graduate of Dos Pueblos High School in Santa Barbara, California, and the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is a sales representative for Industrial Molding Corporation in Pendergrass, Georgia.

A spring wedding is planned.

Shannon-Shell

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shannon, of Hardy, VA, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Traci Ann Shannon to Mr. Michael Arthur Howdy Shell. He is the son of Mrs. Dorothy Howdy Shell, of Ocala, FL, and the late Mr. Glenn Howdy Shell.

Traci is a student at Hollins College, Roanoke, VA, majoring in Economics and business. She is employed by Valley Construction News. Michael is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, with a BA in History. He is employed by Branch and Associated as a Project Manager.

A fall wedding is planned.

Simmons-Cook

Kelli Leann Simmons and John Albert ``Jay'' Cook II announced their engagement on January 11, 1997, in front of nearly 8,000 witnesses watching a Roanoke Express hockey game.

Miss Simmons is the daughter of Janet W. Hayes and Danny Lee Simmons, both of Roanoke. A 1990 graduate of Northside High School, Miss Simmons is currently employed by Glad Day Care in Roanoke.

Mr. Cook is the son of John Albert Cook and Pamela Elaine Cook, also of Roanoke. A 1996 graduate of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., with a B.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences, Mr. Cook is currently employed by the United States Postal Service at their Salem, Va., Remote Encoding Center.

An early 1998 wedding date is planned.

Steorts-Gwathmey

Mr. and Mrs. David P. Steorts of Roanoke, Virginia, joyfully announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Kelly Marie Steorts of Richmond, to Mr. John Owen Gwathmey, son of Dr. and Mrs. Owen Gwathmey of King William County, Virginia.

A June wedding is to take place at their farm, Burlington, in Aylett, Virginia.
