NEW FOR 1997 TROUT STOCKING SCHEDULE

JACKSON RIVER from Gathright Dam downstream to the Westvaco Dam at Covington restricted to artificial lures with single hooks. No bait.

MINIMUM SIZE boosted from 12 to 16 inches and keep limit reduced from six to two trout per day in the special-regulations section of the Jackson River, Hidden Valley area, Bath County.

FEE-FISHING season extended in the fall to Sept. 30 at Big Tumbling Creek (including Laurel Bed Lake) and Crooked Creek, and to Oct. 31 at Douthat Lake.

YOUNGSTERS age 12 and under can fish without a daily permit in Douthat Lake fee area when accompanied by an adult who has a permit. The combined limit cannot exceed six fish per day.

POUND RIVER in Wise County, Passage Creek in Shenandoah County and Accotink Creek in Fairfax County are delayed-harvest streams. They offer catch-and-release with artificial lures only Oct.1-May 31. The rest of the year, general trout regulations are in effect. Other delayed-harvest streams include Back Creek in Bath County and North River and South River in Augusta County.

TWO URBAN fishing lakes have been added to the catchable trout stocking plan: Cook Lake in Alexandria and Biggins Lake in Newport News. The South Fork of Moormans River no longer will receive stocked trout because of the loss of access as a result of flooding.

STOCKING PLAN has dropped old biweekly streams and added them to Category A (see stocking schedule). Category A streams will be stocked more frequently in the spring.
